🕓This is an exciting new beginning in Brussels. The new European Commission started last week and now, the countdown has begun! Within its first 100 days, we can expect the strategy for the Clean Industrial Deal to be out.   What can we learn from our experience during the past mandate?   Our takeaway in one sentence is…   𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀.   Yes, that’s right! 🌍✨ White smoke coming from Strasbourg! Today, the European Parliament approved by a narrow margin the new College of Commissioners for the 2024-2029 mandate: 370 MEPs voted in favour, 282 against, and 36 abstained. President von der Leyen announced that the first major initiative of the new Commission will be a ‘𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀’ focusing on three pillars of the Draghi report: 1. innovation;  2. a joint plan for decarbonisation and competitiveness with an emphasis on the Clean Industrial Deal;  3. economic security. Important challenges lie ahead for the new College of Commissioners which will hit the ground running as of next Monday 2 December. The Clean Industrial Deal will mark the beginning of this new term, being the key to ensure sustainable, competitive, and carbon-neutral industries by 2050.
