  • On November 26, we came together as a small group of professionals experienced in stakeholder engagement in European research and innovation projects focused on sustainability. The aim was to explore what meaningful local engagement looks like, how it translates into impact, and how to measure this impact. Insights were share from across different areas, from energy, to forestry, to wetlands, to NBS in cities. Our ideas on local engagement offered a shared starting point for digging deeper into the questions posed, inviting a targeted follow-up discussion among us on what meaningful local engagement is and how to capture its impact. A big thanks to everyone who participated! 🙌 Are you interested to learn more about the discussion? Please visit our website, also for the inspiring resources shared during the event: - JUSTNatureProject's ideation workshops with pupils to visualise their vision of a public space; - SUPERB project's Forest Storytelling and Engagement for Change guide & insights on analysis of online/social media data in stakeholder identification, understanding and engagement;  - Fostering reflective impact orientation in transdisciplinary research – A multi-method workshop format https://lnkd.in/e3pWmxZW Åsa Granberg Diana Surová Emilia Nagy Rina Tsubaki Zinaida Vasilyeva Happy Holidays and a festive cheers to continuing the converstation in 2025! 🎄

🌳 🦋 Have you ever wondered how forest #stories can make a difference for the field of #forest #restoration? Who and what do forest stories include, and how does this shape #action towards different kinds of forest futures?    In collaboration with King's College London, we have developed a Forest Storytelling and Engagement for Change #guide that offers a range of #practical #tools to support those living and working with forests to explore how to tell stories that can make a difference.    The guide builds on our research and engagement activities as part of our #EU Green Deal SUPERB project to upscale #ecosystem #restoration across Europe, including in 12 demonstration areas in 12 countries.     If you hold an interest in the role of stories in shaping forest futures – whether you are a #journalist covering forests, a #policy-maker interested in understanding who and what might be missing from your plans, a #forest #practitioner interested in how people are engaging with your site, or a #community #group interested in what kinds of stories there are about forests in your area – this toolkit and activities are for you!     🌀🎄 Stay tuned for more in the upcoming weeks, as we’ll deep-dive into each of the 6 tools leading up to Christmas!    Download the full guide via this link: https://lnkd.in/e_3RDMCF  Gesche Schifferdecker, Rina Tsubaki, Rahel K., Shanqing Gao, Liliana Bounegru, jonathan w. y. gray, Nina H., European Forest Institute, Prospex Institute vzw

  • 🌱 Reflecting on the INTERCEDE Project’s First Transdisciplinary Forum We’re thrilled to share the success of the INTERCEDE project’s First Transdisciplinary Forum, held on November 13th and 14th in Brussels. The event brought together a diverse group of experts and practitioners from across the forestry sector, aiming to bridge the gap between academia and real-world practice. We were honoured to open each day with a keynote speech: On Day 1, Diana Feliciano, Professor of Climate Change and Sustainable Economic Development at Teesside University, set the stage by discussing the role of Transdisciplinary Research in Climate and Biodiversity-Smart Forest Management. On Day 2, we had Christoph zu Stolberg, Head of International Relations at Future Forest Initiative, offer insights from his perspective as a forest owner and introduce the Future Forest Initiative. We also thank project coordinator Thomas Lundhede from the University of Copenhagen (Københavns Universitet) for his welcome speech introducing INTERCEDE to the audience. The two days were filled with interactive and collaborative sessions where the project consortium had the chance to kickstart their tasks and get initial feedback from the end-users. We unveiled the a Database on European cases where Market-Based Instruments (MBIs) and Payment for Environmental Services (PES) are used to provide Forest Ecosystem Services (FES). We also fostered collaboration among stakeholders through a reverse role-play game to foster understanding among the diverse actors involved in FES. Then, participants provided valuable feedback on the design of a decision support tool for FES provision. Lastly, we discussed potential political frameworks to support Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES) and financing for FES. We also introduced the Transdisciplinary Working Groups, aimed at engaging stakeholders throughout the life of the project, and brainstormed ideas for INTERCEDE’s short film. A huge thank you to everyone who joined us in this journey! Your insights and contributions are invaluable as we move forward with the INTERCEDE project, working together towards more sustainable and effective forest ecosystem management. We’re excited for the next steps and look forward to continuing to collaborate with you all. Let’s keep the momentum going! #INTERCEDE #TransdisciplinaryResearch #SustainableForestry #FES #EcosystemServices #ClimateAction #Biodiversity #ForestryInnovation #PES #FutureForest

  • Updates from the Minority Report General Assembly in Dublin!      On November 5-6, we had the chance to join our project partners in Dublin for two days of insightful brainstorming and discussion around the goals of the Minority Report project, the work that has been completed so far, and our shared visions for the upcoming year of collaboration. Here's a glimpse into what we achieved in our session:     🌍 Imagined a successful project: Together, we shared our hopes for what a successful project will look like in 2027.   🤝 Defined co-creation: We collaboratively defined and shaped the concept of "co-creation" for the project, laying the groundwork for our upcoming stakeholder engagement activities in each demonstration site.  📍 Mapped out key stakeholders: We consolidated our stakeholder mapping for each demo site, identifying levels of influence and critical interlinkages between each of them.      A highlight of the trip: Before the GA, we organized our first ever “walk-shop” at the Dublin demo site, in the neighborhood of Ringsend. With the invaluable help and support of our partners at Trinity College Dublin and Dublin City Council, we met a few locals from the area and walked for an hour with them to learn about the neighborhood’s history, community dynamics, and ongoing challenges. Along the walk, residents pinpointed vulnerable spaces most impacted by climate events in recent years but also showed us community-driven and climate-friendly solutions being developed, like rainfall planters and a colorful community garden.      Overall, it was a few action-packed days full of exciting exchanges centered around how technology, people, and research can come together to make urban areas more #resilient in the face of increasing climatic pressures. Thanks to all our partners and walk-shop participants for their time, energy, and insights.
