With the spotlight firmly on #renewablegases and strategic #collaboration, our member company, @Floene recently hosted an event at their headquarters in #Lisbon, bringing together representatives from across our Association. The gathering coincided with the final @GD4S Executive Committee meeting of 2024, during which we reviewed the Association’s progress in 2024; outlined new strategic organisational initiatives; and, previewed our Roadmap for 2025. As part of this two-day session, the group visited to ‘Green Pipeline Project - The Natural Energy of Hydrogen’ (GPP), Floene’s pioneer project, that is blending green hydrogen for the first time into the Portuguese gas distribution network. This mixture supplies circa 80 residential, tertiary and industrial customers and enables Floene to study the impact of H2 injection on gas distribution infrastructures and on consumer appliances. A series of technical sessions on renewable gases took place in parallel, sharing #bestpractices and discussing perspectives on the renewable gas sector. Breakout discussions focused on the critical role of #DistributionSystemOperators (DSOs) in the energy transition. These initiatives embody GD4S’ mission to promote collaboration among gas DSOs to drive growth and innovation in the renewable gas sector allowing members benefit through insights into cutting-edge developments, enhancing technical expertise, and strengthening their collective voice on critical energy transition issues. Our appreciation as always to our member companies for their active participation and invaluable contributions during this key event Floene, Italgas, Nedgia, grupo Naturgy, Enexis, Alliander, Stedin, Gas Networks Ireland, GRDF Distrigaz Sud Retele, Cadent Gas Limited, enaon

Tom O'Brien, CEO of Nephin Energy joined our CEO, Cathal Marley, to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Gas Networks Ireland and Nephin Renewable Gas. This aims to accelerate the development and integration of biomethane production into Ireland’s gas network, contributing to the decarbonisation of the gas network and advancing the country’s climate action targets. The new MoU outlines the collaborative engagement that will take place between both organisations to efficiently connect Nephin Renewable Gas’s biomethane plants into the gas network. Additionally, both parties will explore further engagement on how Nephin Renewable Gas can access the central grid injection (CGI) facilities, which Gas Networks Ireland turned the sod on with Tánaiste Micheál Martin in Mitchelstown, Co. Cork last week, and other locations nationwide. This MoU displays the ambition of both organisations to explore unlocking the potential of biomethane as a key renewable energy source and help move Ireland closer to a cleaner, more sustainable energy future. https://lnkd.in/eQukXHHd #Biomethane #MovingIrelandsEnergy #RenewableEnergy #EnergyTransition

🌍 The Critical Role of Gas Networks: Ensuring Flexibility and Security in Europe’s Net-Zero Transition 🌱 At the CERRE Net Zero Summit, Frédéric DYKMANS 🌱highlighted the pivotal role of renewable gases such as biomethane and hydrogen in helping Europe achieve net-zero by 2050. A key takeaway was the importance of energy system flexibility—where hybrid heat pumps play a crucial role. These systems allow switching between 🔥gas and ⚡electricity based on supply conditions, ensuring efficient use of renewable resources while maintaining energy security. By adapting gas networks to integrate renewable gases, we can further enhance this flexibility, offering both long-term storage solutions and a reliable pathway for decarbonising hard-to-electrify sectors. 🚛🏭 Discover more and download the Centre on Regulation in Europe (CERRE) study by Chi Kong Chyong 📘here. https://lnkd.in/eqsGTmNm #NetZero #RenewableGases #GD4S #EnergyTransition #Flexibility #HybridHeatPumps #Biomethane #Hydrogen #EnergySecurity Giulia De Nardin Gas Distributors for Sustainability (GD4S) Frédéric DYKMANS 🌱Catherine Banet Kong Chyong

Gas Distributors for Sustainability (GD4S) reposted this
Exciting times ahead as I step up as Vice President of GD4S! Today, I am honored to have been elected as Vice President of Gas Distributors for Sustainability (GD4S), the association representing Europe’s leading gas distribution network operators at the EU level. This new role builds on my ongoing work as a Board Member representing alliander, Stedin, and Enexis. I look forward to working closely with President Laurence Poirier-Dietz, Secretary General Frédéric DYKMANS 🌱, and all stakeholders to accelerate the scaling up of renewable molecules. The evolution of our role as distribution system operators is significant. We are no longer just operators of the energy grid – we are now co-designers of the future energy system. This shift enables us to play a pivotal role in shaping the transition of the European gas sector. As the new Vice President of GD4S, I’m eager to drive innovative solutions and advocate for smart, realistic, and sustainable energy policies. A key focus will be the promotion of renewable molecules, which are essential as they integrate seamlessly with other energy vectors like electricity and heat. Rather than viewing these systems as parallel, we should recognize their complementary nature, working together to deliver secure and resilient energy to our customers and flexibility in our grids. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the former President Raúl Suárez and Vice Presidents Paolo Gallo and Daniel Pantilie for their dedication to GD4S. Under their leadership, GD4S has grown into a credible partner for European institutions, NGOs, and other stakeholders, and I’m honored to build on the strong foundation they’ve laid.
