#InternationalMigrantsDay2024 Recognizing the backbone of Europe's prosperity means ensuring migrant workers receive hashtag #EqualTreatment. EFFAT calls for bold action to ensure the rights and dignity of migrant workers, including: ✔️ An EU Directive on Labour Intermediaries and hashtag #Subcontracting Chains, establishing clear responsibilities for employers and ensuring fair working conditions throughout supply chains. ✔️ A Fair and Social Common Agricultural Policy (#CAP): with robust social conditionality mechanisms tied to subsidies, incentivizing fair labor practices. ✔️ Increased frequency and scope of labour #inspections, targeting sectors where migrant workers are disproportionately employed, such as agriculture ✔️ Stronger collective bargaining and union representation to amplify the voices of migrant workers and ensure fair wages and improved working conditions. EFFAT Leads the Way in Agricultural Social Dialogue! Last week, #EFFAT held the first plenary session of the Sectoral Social Dialogue Committee (SSDC) for Agriculture after our Congress. The session was chaired by our newly elected Agriculture Sector President, Fabrizio De Pascale (UILA, Italy). Key highlights of the session included: ✨ Introducing New Leadership: Both EFFAT and Geopa* presented their renewed leadership teams. ✨ Shaping the Future: Social Partners engaged in constructive exchanges to define the priorities for the 2025-2026 work programme. ✨ Driving Insights: EFFAT shared the preliminary findings of its survey on #SocialConditionality in the CAP. The discussion focused on the level and modalities of involvement of member organisations in this critical process. As we move forward, EFFAT remains committed to advancing social standards and fostering collaboration within the agricultural sector. Enrico Somaglia Ivan Ivanov

💡👏 European Federation of Food, Agriculture, and Tourism Trade Unions (EFFAT) is delighted to welcome the European Commission’s report, “𝘈𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘋𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘓𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘚𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯: 𝘈𝘯 𝘈𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘺𝘴𝘪𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘗𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯 34 𝘌𝘶𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘯 𝘊𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴" as it lays a solid foundation for future progress. This significant contribution to the European Care Strategy highlights the vital need to tackle the challenges facing the Personal and Household Services (#PHS) sector—a cornerstone of our society. EFFAT fully supports the report’s information and findings, in particular: 🔵 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗛𝗦 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 as encompassing workers who provide support services to households, including care (e.g. childcare or long-term care (LTC) for older people and for people with disabilities) and non-care activities (e.g. cleaning or cooking). 🔵 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 which remains an overarching issue, undermining workers' access to essential social and labour protections. As inspections are challenging to implement, given the private home setting of this work, the report highlights instruments applied in some Member States that have significantly reduced undeclared work. 🔵𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗶𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗗𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀 which are among the most vulnerable in PHS, often facing language barriers and administrative constraints, making it harder to access their rights. As a result, the report emphasizes the importance of creating legal migration pathways, recognizing their skills, and ensuring the application of measures to avoid the exploitation of these workers. 💪 We urge the European Commission to build on this momentum in #2025 by adopting bold, action-driven measures to further strengthen the PHS sector. #FightingForward: After EFFAT Congress 💪 It has been over a week since our Congress concluded in Valencia, leaving us with a powerful mandate to continue our fight for workers' rights across Europe. The Congress marked a milestone with the election of Enrico Somaglia as our new General Secretary. His vision of an EFFAT that inspires hope, offers solutions, and puts the needs of working people first—sets a bold course for the future of #EFFAT. This sense of unity and solidarity was echoed by newly elected leadership. President Annika Rönni-Sällinen (PAM, Finland) emphasized the importance of making workers' voices visible and heard. Vice-Presidents Patrick Rehan (FGTB Horval, Belgium) and Irina Zgonec-Rožej (KZI, Slovenia) added their powerful perspectives, reminding us that leadership is grounded in a shared dedication to change workers‘ lives. 🌍 Valencia’s recent #DANA flooding served as a stark backdrop to the Congress. The tragedy underscored the urgency of EFFAT’s mission to mobilise against climate change, a direct threat to health and safety as well as job security in our sectors. Congress also reaffirmed our call for a true #JustTransition. 📢 The Congress theme, Fighting Forward, encapsulated EFFAT's new political vision for the next five years. With pillars focussing on people and planet, the future of Europe, and the future of EFFAT, we committed ourselves to advancing worker protections, fostering fair and inclusive workplaces, and amplifying the power of our affiliates. In line with this vision, Congress reinforced 3 critical priorities for the coming years: ⛓️ Limiting subcontracting and regulating labour intermediation: We will continue to mobilise for EU action on this priority, as too many workers in our sectors face unequal treatment and even exploitation. 🚫 Mobilising against the advancement of the far right: The rise of extremist ideologies poses a direct threat to workers’ rights, democracy, and social justice. As EFFAT, we must play our part in this vital fight. 🍽️ Ensuring truly sustainable food and hospitality sectors: Tackling short-termism and the concentration of power in the food supply chain and hospitality, while ensuring fairer trade agreements, is crucial to creating a sustainable future. Congress strongly rejected harmful trade deals such as Mercosur that undermine workers’ rights, environmental protection, and fair competition. From the exchange of ideas during Congress sessions to the leadership transitions, what stands out is the solidarity of EFFAT affiliates. This sense of unity will take us to new heights as we face the challenges ahead. 🙌 Now it is time to translate our vision into action! #FightingForward together! 🔗 Read EFFAT's Political Vision 2025-2029 here: https://lnkd.in/dargTdDq
