🌍 Enganging with policy-makers on the future of Europe’s boating industry On 11 December, EBI members gathered in Brussels for a series of high-level meetings with Members of the European Parliament and the European Commission, bringing forward the priorities of the European recreational boating industry. The day’s discussions centred on key topics: 🚤 Innovation and sustainability – Addressing the green transition and the role of the Recreational Craft Directive in supporting a comprehensive approach to reduce environmental impact. 🌱 Boosting SMEs and marinas – Highlighting the need for targeted EU funding to help marinas adopt green technologies and provide alternative fuels. 🧭 Cross-border recognition of skipper licenses – Calling for swift legislative action to harmonise recognition of recreational boating licenses across the EU, unlocking growth in nautical tourism. 💶 Fair VAT policies – Advocating for a level playing field by including marinas and charter boats within the VAT Directive, aligning them with other tourism sectors like hotels and campsites. Throughout the day, EBI emphasised the industry's contribution to Europe’s blue economy, supporting 280,000 direct jobs and 30,000 SMEs, while playing a key role in regional development and sustainable tourism. 🤝 A special thank you to the MEPs, European Commission representatives, and our dedicated EBI members for their engagement and commitment to advancing these priorities. Together, we continue to build a strong and sustainable future for boating in Europe. #PublicAffairsDay #BlueEconomy #MadeInEurope

🎣 On 28 November, EBI President Robert Marx was proud to speak at the EFTTA Angling Summit in Berlin, highlighting the importance of collaboration between the recreational boating and angling sectors. Both industries share a commitment to delivering quality on-water experiences while protecting marine and freshwater environments. With 6.5 million boats in Europe and 25 million marine and inland anglers, the connection is clear, and the opportunities to grow sustainably are significant. EBI emphasised the need for joint innovation, sustainable practices, and advocacy to support local communities, and drive economic growth. 🤝 We look forward to continued collaboration with EFTTA and its members to connect the boating and angling industries as natural partners. #AnglingSummit #Sustainability #BlueEconomy #MadeInEurope

🚤 EU action necessary to reduce barriers for boaters in Europe! 🌍 A big thank you to MEP Daniel Attard for raising an important written question to the European Commission: 🪪 While European citizens can drive seamlessly across borders with their car driving licenses, navigating waterways across countries remains a challenge due to inconsistent recognition of boating licenses. 💡 In its response, the Commission acknowledged the hurdles faced by boaters, businesses and professional skippers due to the lack of mutual recognition of boating licenses among Member States. To explore potential solutions, the Commission has initiated a study to analyse the advantages and drawbacks of a possible mutual recognition system for recreational boating licences, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. The Commission also emphasised the need for action to address this issue. We look forward to action from the incoming Commission to prioritise an initiative to streamline the recognition of boating licenses, paving the way for smoother cross-border boating and growing the sector’s appeal. 📄 Read the full question and response here: https://lnkd.in/dTGbUBWf #Boating #EU #MutualRecognition #MadeInEurope
