A fine of €5.7 million was imposed on Pierre Cardin today for fragmenting the 🇪🇺 Single Market and denial of #retailers ability to freely source to bring benefits to #consumers. Read more 👇 #SingleMarket4All EuroCommerce
🔴 The EU Commission fines Pierre Cardin and its licensee Ahlers €5.7 million for restricting cross-border sales of clothing 👇 🔍 The Commission's investigation found that, between 2008 and 2021, the two companies entered into anticompetitive agreements and engaged in concerted practices to shield Ahlers from competition. ⛔ These practices gave Ahlers absolute territorial protection in its licensed areas within the EEA and harmed retailers’ ability to source products freely across borders and limited consumer access to lower prices. 💶 The fines were set considering the infringement's severity, scope, and duration, with one party receiving a reduction for inability to pay. 💼 SMEs are the backbone of Europe’s economy, yet there is no dedicated committee for SMEs in the European Parliament. 🔍 So, how can we address this gap? Intergroups play a vital role in the European Parliament by providing informal forums for exchanging views on key issues across political groups. The SME Intergroup, one of the oldest and most active intergroups, offers a crucial cross-party platform where policies to support #SMEs can be developed and strengthened. 💡 This is why EuroCommerce supports renewing the #SMEIntergroup. Over the last mandate, the SME Intergroup has addressed critical issues, including: ✅ Reducing regulatory burdens. ✅ Overcoming barriers in the Single Market. ✅ Helping SMEs navigate the digital, green, and skills transitions. 🚨 With a limited number of intergroups in Parliament, ensuring the renewal of the SME Intergroup’s mandate is essential. It allows this platform to continue its invaluable work and foster effective policies that benefit over 25 million SMEs across Europe. We count on the support of policymakers to extend the SME Intergroup’s mandate, enabling it to build on its successes and continue driving impactful policies for Europe’s SMEs.
