It is important to decarbonize corporate fleets. However, we have some concerns about how to address this challenge. The public consultation earlier this year highlighted options such as mandates for zero emission vehicles (ZEV), meaning mandates for BEVs. Futher unclarities arise in light of the expected revision of the CO2 Standards for Cars/Vans/Trucks, that will affect the definition of ZEVs. The concerns about this initiative is shared by 15 other organizations, together we published a joint letter to the Commission. We recommend two things: focus on enabling conditions (such as infrastructure and grid) and fiscal incentives for all climate friendly technologies, covering also renewable fuels. After the EU elections, Europe is facing a more industry-oriented legislative period. However, the EU will maintain its green course and its pioneering role in climate protection policy. But what about developments in other regions of the world? What are the chances of achieving net zero there by 2050 and what efforts are being made? With a live debriefing of COP 29, we will discuss the results in more detail and the way forward in the context of the entire #eFuel sector. #event Dial in: today, at 03:30 pm CEST, register for free via: https://lnkd.in/dzkWeSb9

On February 26 the "Clean Industrial Deal" will land. The European Commission plans to unveil its continuation of the European Green Deal, with a stronger focus on industrial competitiveness. That´s more than welcomed, there is a lot to do. Just to mention two examples: improving the Delegated Acts for RFNBOs and including renewable fuels into the CO2 Standards for Cars, Vans and Trucks. To this end, the EPP Group in the European Parliament published (see attached) a new Group Position Paper. Among many good proposals, we want to highlight the focus on CO2 reduction instead of promoting single technologies. AND not OR. It´s overdue to include renewable fuels, as defined under the Renewable Energy Directive, to acknowledge their carbon reduction potential as well as scale procution capacities. Correcting the tailpipe approaches of both CO2 Standard Regulations has to be a priority. This will lead to an increase of CO2 reduction as well as maintaining jobs and wealth in the EU. #makerenewablefuelscount

It all started with a Recital. How can vehicles fuelled with carbon neutral fuels be approved even after 2035? This resulted in the founding of a broad industry group, the Working group on monitoring methodologies for CO2 neutral fuels. After months of work the report « Monitoring the use of CO2 neutral fuels in road transport - a cross-sectoral industry assessment » was presented and adopted today (see link in comments). This report presents and analyses 11 potential technological options for the exclusive use of CO2 neutral fuels (CNFs) in new road vehicles, and proposes innovative solutions to ensure a sustainable tracking and verification of fuels in such vehicles. The report proposes a new definition for CNFs which covers all renewable fuels, including eFuels and biofuels, compliant with the sustainability criteria set in the Renewable Energy Directive (RED). We are looking forward to discuss the results with policy makers and industry to drive the energy transition in transport.

BMW Group joined the eFuel Alliance. We are happy to announce that BMW joined the Alliance to support our mission to decarbonise the transport sector. We believe in technology-agnostic policy. All technologies are need - from electric, over hydrogen to #eFuels. We encourage other industry players to recognize renewable fuels as a complementary technological pathway and to work together to achieve our climate targets. “Diversifying propulsion systems is a key factor in achieving our climate goals. We are convinced that renewable fuels can contribute significantly to a climate-neutral energy system on a global scale and across all transportation sectors,” emphasizes Ralf Diemer. “This highlights the growing importance of renewable fuels in the international context. With the BMW Group, we have gained another pivotal partner that recognizes and promotes this role, particularly in light of the diverse requirements of global vehicle markets.” “The BMW Group is one of the innovation leaders among automotive manufacturers. This membership underscores the growing trend within the automotive industry to complement electrification with additional technological pathways for reducing CO2 emissions,” adds Ralf. With the BMW Group joining, the eFuel Alliance now includes seven prominent automotive manufacturers, such as Porsche AG, Mazda, Alpina, Horse, Suzuki, and Iveco from the commercial vehicle sector. #press

Today the board of the eFuel Alliance got invited in the electrolysis gigafactory of Siemens Energy in Berlin. Currently just one shift produce up to 1 GW of electrolysis per year. It can be increased to 6 GW if we improve the political framework. Thanks for the organization, Volkmar Pflug and Samuel Alt. We welcomed the latest new board member Arne Philipp Siemens of Porsche AG. In addition, Corentin Prié and Dr. Lukas Mauler presented a new study on the scalability of #eFuels until 2050 which will be the basis of our future positions. The board also approved the budget for 2025 and the campaigns for next year. Due to new members like BMW Group, Lufthansa and HORSE the eFuel Alliance continues to grow. Thanks for your support. Back from the dead? ICE in passenger vehicles. This was the provocative title of today's panel discussion at the 20204 CTI SYMPOSIUM - Automotive • Powertrain • Systems in Berlin. Together with Dr. Norbert W. Alt, COO of FEV Europe GmbH, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Maximilian Brauer of Technische Universität Berlin and Markus Lienkamp of Technische Universität München we discussed the current development in the automotive industry. While we all agree that electric mobility and #efuels will play an important role in future we had diverging opinions in how to get there. Prof. Bauer and myself argued to use all options and give the choice to the customer. For that reason, we need to revise the current CO2 emission standards and include renewable fuels. On the other side, Mr. Alt emphasises that customers and industry can not afford to follow several tracks and require clarity on technological development. We could not solve that dispute but hopefully the audience has got interesting arguments for both positions. It definitely was entertaining. Thanks to Handelsblatt Media Group for the great organisation.
