This December, we are spotlighting open-access articles from #EJP that showcase the latest advancements in pain science! 🔬 AI has made significant strides in medicine, but their application to acute and chronic pain management has not been well characterised. Chronic pain is a leading cause of disability and impacts millions across Europe. The European Pain Federation (EFIC) has launched a Pain Research Strategy to tackle this growing challenge and bridge funding gaps in pain research. Key priorities of this strategy include: 🔹 Understanding pain mechanisms to guide innovative therapies. 🔹 Addressing comorbidities like mood, sleep, and obesity to improve outcomes. 🔹 Improving current treatments and developing new, effective options. 🔹 Exploring the biopsychosocial impacts of pain for holistic care. 🔹 Promoting prevention, self-management, and personalized pain management. This strategy was built with input from over 600 researchers, clinicians, and people with lived experience of pain, ensuring it reflects the most urgent needs in the field. At the European Pain Federation EFIC European Pain Forum meetings this morning obo EFPA (European Federation of Psychologists' Associations). In Europe approx 150 million people experience chronic pain. While there is good work happening within specific professions, it's great to see good collaboration between the many professions in attendance so that a holistic approach can be taken #pain #mentalhealth
