ACE is the representative organisation for the architectural profession at European level: it aspires to speak with a single voice on its behalf in order to achieve its aims. Its growing membership currently consists of 51 Member Organisations, which are the regulatory and professional representative bodies in all EU Member States, Accession Countries, the UK, Switzerland and Norway. Through them, the ACE represents the interests of over half a million architects from 35countries in Europe.

#Kraków Declaration #NewEuropeanBauhaus: Heritage & Transformation ‘ “What we build and retrofit today, should aspire to become the cultural heritage of the future. What we demolish today is lost forever!” In the framework of the joint Conference held on 28/11, the Architects' Council of Europe (ACE-CAE) Europa Nostra and International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) have issued the Kraków Declaration “#NewEuropeanBauhaus: Heritage & Transformation” which puts forward 7 key recommendations for the future of Europe’s built environment, from favouring #renovation and #adaptive reuse, embracing #innovation and traditional knowledge, upskilling and citizens’ participations, to quality criteria, peer-learning and risk management and preparedness. “With the #Kraków Declaration, we want to provide a purpose to policy frameworks. Architecture and urban planning are the reflection of our societies. It’s about creating value, putting the right questions in place. It’s about the people, the quality, and freedom to choose where to live, in urban or rural areas,” stated Ruth Schagemann, President of the Architects’ Council of Europe. The Declaration also proposes a Call to Action to the incoming European Commission, recently elected Members of the European Parliament and Member States. “The EU ought to adopt an holistic, quality-driven and cultural approach in all EU policies and funding programmes which impact upon the built heritage. We shall reach out to relevant members of the new College of Commissioners responsible for Cohesion, Housing and Skills, among others,” stated Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailović, Secretary General of Europa Nostra and Project Leader of the European Heritage Hub. New report #alert #Sufficiency in the #building sector: For the whole #lifecarbon roadmap This report aims to support the #EU Roadmap for the Reduction of Whole Life Carbon Emissions, showcasing the benefits and potential of sufficiency measures in the built environment. It highlights the growing emissions from new construction,alongside operational emissions, while many European cities face a housing crisis. The report emphasises the several other existing opportunities to promote sufficiency actions in the building sector, such as incentivising the use of vacant spaces, integrating sufficiency into other policy objectives, and leveraging social, economic, and aesthetic benefits. These actions can be cost-effective and quicker than new construction. The study is conducted by BPIE - Buildings Performance Institute Europe and Ramboll for the Directorate-General for Environment of the European Commission.
