The AutoMoTIF project, which focuses on i𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀, recently held its General Assembly in Bilbao, Spain. Representing ALICE, Fernando Liesa and Giuseppe Luppino joined project partners to exchange ideas and explore cutting-edge solutions for integrating automation in supply chains. The meeting highlighted the progress made in addressing complex challenges through four 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗲𝘀: 1️⃣ 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴/𝘂𝗻𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴: streamlining port call processes from vessel arrival to departure with automated tugboat allocation and docking operations. 2️⃣ 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗥𝗼-𝗥𝗼 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: improving cargo handling, warehouse flows, and vehicle movements in Ro-Ro terminals to increase efficiency. 3️⃣ 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐡𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞: evaluating autonomous technologies in inland terminals to optimise flow and adapt to changing logistics requirements. 4️⃣ 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: implementing advanced yard management systems and analysing traffic scenarios to determine the most effective automation strategies. Discussions highlighted the importance of linking AutoMoTIF’s innovations with related projects such as AUTOSUP, FOR-FREIGHT, MultiRELOAD, AWARD-H2020 , and SEAMLESS Project. These collaborations ensure that the solutions being developed are scalable, interoperable, and in line with European transport policy. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀: 🔹 Automation has transformative potential for logistics, from reducing environmental impact to increasing efficiency and safety. 🔹 Projections indicate that logistics nodes will face saturation in the coming years, necessitating upgrades to handle increasing volumes of goods. Automations proposed in AutoMoTIF can play a pivotal role in addressing this challenge, offering solutions to avoid long and costly infrastructural expansions. 🔹 Interdisciplinary and cross-sector collaboration is essential to address regulatory, technical, and operational challenges. 🔹 Projects such as AutoMoTIF are preparing the way for a sustainable, resilient, and digitally connected logistics network across Europe. #LogisticsInnovation #Automation #Sustainability #MultimodalTransport #NetZeroLogistics
