Reality of current electric mobility market in Bangladesh 4 core components of the current EV ecosystem. 1. Charging infrastructure 2. Battery 3. Vehicle 4. User Let's understand the problem statement first, 1. Charging infrastructure We don't have a compliance maintained charging infrastructure yet. But we have conventional and unorganized 50k+ charging points since 2012. AKA "Easy bike charging garage " If we convert only 20% of existing garage points into a "Smart charging garage " then half of the charging infrastructure work is done. 2. Battery 4 million available vehicles using 150 years old lead-acid batteries. This leads to "waste" 50% of the energy drawn from the national grid. Lithium - based batteries can be a solution. Due to affordability issues, a very strategic Engineering brilliance can be a solution. Remember : To combat range anxiety and the lack of a dense charging network, vehicle manufacturers resort to installing larger and bulkier battery packs. This eventually leads to higher costs for both themselves & consumers. 3. Vehicle 4 million vehicles, most of the bodies are locally made and makers don’t have the engineering knowledge. Better braking system, Bangladeshi environment focused energy train, torque, negligible vibration, superior drive experience and finally engineering brilliance will solve the issues 4. User We are lucky in that case. These vehicles transport nearly 20 million people everyday. Safe to say that we already have consumer acceptance. Finally, we need "MORE Flexibility" Lack of a dense charging network, long charging time, larger and bulkier battery pack, poor battery life cannot be the scalable solution. Now Many of us think of the "Battery Swapping" Remember : Battery swapping is 🚩🚩🚩 You always need an extra float battery. This eventually leads to higher cost for both themselves and consumers. Battery swapping can be a solution for a very small specific niche, not for a scalable one. Last but not least, this electrifying journey needs energy partnerships crafted in a way that creates a win-win-win scenario for the consumer, vehicle manufacturer, and charging station partner. Half-hearted Commitment: Many large companies treat their e-commerce ventures like an experiment—never fully committing, nor fully discarding them, resulting in a neglected middle ground. 2. Cumbersome Decision-Making: Decisions necessary for competitiveness are delayed, moving slowly through layers of management, which hampers growth. 3. Unclear Focus: These companies often shift strategies frequently—B2C, then B2B, then a mix—without a clear direction, leading to confusion and inefficiency. 4. Ineffective Advisors: Decisions are sometimes influenced by out-of-touch advisors who recommend outdated practices, demotivating forward-thinking teams. 5. Lack of Tech Investment: Investments in strategic technological infrastructure are minimal. Few firms create well-planned, flowchart-based platforms tailored to their business needs. 6. Haphazard Hiring: Critical positions are filled quickly and often without the necessary expertise, with unrealistic expectations of immediate returns. Despite these issues, the expansion of internet connectivity offers hope. To thrive, companies need a strategic, well-planned approach to e-commerce, preparing for a future where even rural areas have high-speed internet and more sophisticated supply chains.

#JPL #MSEL #Solarpower Asian Development Bank (ADB) has signed a $24.3 million financing package with Muktagacha Solartech Energy Limited (MSEL) to establish a grid-connected solar photovoltaic power plant in Mymensingh, Bangladesh. As the sole mandated lead arranger, ADB arranged, structured, and syndicated the financing package for MSEL, which is owned by Bangladesh-based energy company Joules Power Limited (JPL). It comprises a $15.5 million loan from ADB and a $8.8 million loan from Leading Asia’s Private Infrastructure Fund 2 (LEAP 2), administered by ADB.

Exploring Agrivoltaics as a potential game-changer Renewable Energy Solution for Bangladesh: Focusing on the potential of agrivoltaics in Bangladesh, a new discussion paper titled "Unlocking clean energy, GHG reduction and better livelihood potentials in rural areas of Bangladesh: Exploring Agrivoltaics as a potential game changer" explores the co-benefits of clean energy, GHG reduction, and improved livelihoods in rural areas. The paper estimates the agrivoltaic potential in Bangladesh under two scenarios: 40% Target vs Net-Zero Target, with co-benefits for different stakeholders highlighted. Despite challenges, the symbiotic use of agricultural lands to simultaneously yield food and solar energy, known as 'agrivoltaics,' has been recommended for achieving local/national clean energy transition. This paper aligns with the Government of Bangladesh's vision for net-zero transition, highlighting current efforts towards low-carbon development. Check out the full paper for more information! This training was provided through Energy Efficiency and Grid Integration of Renewable Energy (EEGIRE II), a German development cooperation project implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, which aims to enhance the integration of decentralized generation and variable renewable energy (VRE). As Bangladesh improves its power system reliability, challenges like voltage fluctuations and supply bottlenecks remain, especially with the rise of EVs and solar PV. The two-day event covered key topics such as technical specs, economic considerations, and tariff design for large-scale BESS investments, concluding with a case study workshop on BESS tariff design for Bangladesh. Shafiqul Alam of the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) said Teesta Solar Ltd accounts for roughly 50 per cent of the country's total installed utility-scale solar capacity. "Green sukuk was used to finance the solar project, marking the first such instance in the clean energy sector," Mr Alam said. "This paves the way for renewable energy project investors to utilise similar instruments, such as green bonds, to mobilise private funds." He added that such instruments have the capacity to streamline renewable energy project implementation and strengthen local entrepreneurship in the coming years.
