Need for PPP sensitization in Nepal Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) represent a collaborative approach where the public and private sectors join forces to deliver public infrastructure and services. Globally, PPPs have been recognized for enhancing efficiency, fostering innovation, and optimizing resource use. Ever since its first 5-year plan in 1956, Nepal has seen a drastic and steady growth in economy. Public-Private Partnership (PPP) has been one of the major contributors towards economic growth of Nepal specifically post 9th 5-year plan of 2002. In Nepal, there is a growing need to leverage PPPs to accelerate development, especially in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and other essential services. Nepal has positioned itself as one of the emerging destination for investment from all across the world. Through regulatory reforms such as Private Procurement Act, PPPIA 2019, PPPIR 2020 and others, GoN has taken steps towards making Nepal a more attractive place for foreign and domestic investors while ensuring regulated investments focusing on the long-term gains as well. There have been major contracts in areas of hydropower signed under PPP modality providing 4000MW of energy addition in BOOT model. Nepal looks forward to educating the significant stakeholders regarding PPP modality in order to boost diversified investments as in infrastructure, transport and ICT sector. Even though there has been an increase in understanding of PPP following challenges still remain in the provincial and local levels. a.     Awareness Deficit: Limited understanding of PPP benefits and frameworks. b.    Regulatory Hurdles: Inadequate policy and regulatory support at PLG levels. c.     Public Skepticism: Misconceptions about privatization and profit motives. To address the challenges and fully harness the potential of Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) in Nepal, there is a pressing need for targeted sensitization efforts. Raising awareness about the benefits of PPPs, especially at the provincial and local government levels, is essential to dispel misconceptions and build public trust. Moreover, enhancing regulatory frameworks and providing capacity-building programs will empower these levels of government to effectively implement PPP projects. By fostering a deeper understanding among stakeholders, including the general public, policymakers, and private investors, Nepal can create a conducive environment for sustained economic growth through strategic partnerships in infrastructure, transport, ICT, and other key sectors. These efforts will ultimately help unlock the full potential of PPPs, driving Nepal's development agenda forward.
