This Research Specialist Level 2 will be responsible for both shop work and field operation and will assist with maintenance, fabrication and field work for Field Support Group of Coastal Studies Institute.
This person will also be operating a forklift, vehicles and boats in the performance of job.
Job Responsibilities: 30% Shop work: Performs advanced technical support which includes the testing and maintenance of geophysical equipment and device used in the Field Support Group of Coastal Studies Institute; maintenance of boats, motors, vehicles and trailers; assist fabrication and installation of equipment.
30% Field operations: Includes assisting the geophysical and hydrographic data acquisition; assisting technicians and scientists in the field with the operations of boats; the installation, maintenance and recovery of instrumentation in the field; monitoring of safety of operations; deck operations; complete Job Safety Analysis Paperwork.
Provides considerable technical advice and assistance in the design and fabrication of materials.
30% Geological and geophysical data archiving and management.
Assist with project management.
10% Assist and coordination with other members in Field Support Group of the Coastal Studies Institute and other outside departments; communication and coordination with professors (PIs) and students on pending fieldwork and the scheduling of field activities.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree Degree Substitute: 4 years of experience will substitute for the Bachelor's Degree Years of Experience: 3 Specific Experience: Must be able to swim and comfortable working in and around boats.
Preferred Qualifications: Specific Experience: Windows operating systems, with knowledge of Office; Experience working with Marine Radios, GPS Plotters & Satellite Systems; Oceanographic and/or geophysical instruments.
Preferred Certifications/Licenses: Small boat experience with familiarity of how to safely operate in both rivers and open water environments; Familiarity with working on and around large vessels and Oil Platforms; familiarity with towing boats & cargo trailers.
