*GENERAL DESCRIPTION* Under the direction of an employee of a higher classification, performs skilled and managerial work in directing mechanical, electrical, and construction operations.
Work involves responsibility for the operation, maintenance, and repair of air conditioning and heating systems, electrical, plumbing, and construction projects for City-Parish buildings.
Work includes the training and scheduling of maintenance personnel in multiple trades.
An employee in this class is subject to unusual working hours as well as twenty-four-hour call for situations needing immediate attention.
General supervision is exercised over several mechanical operations supervisors and crews.
Performs other work as requested.
*MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS* *EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE* High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent certificate of competency, and four years of experience at the journeyman level in two or more of the major building trades, including two years of supervisory experience.
*SUBSTITUTIONS* Associate's degree in construction technology/management will substitute for two years of work experience; bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or construction technology/management will substitute for four years of work experience.
Six semester (9 quarter) hours in business administration and/or management will substitute for one year of supervisory experience; twelve semester (18 quarter) hours in business administration and/or management will substitute for two years of supervisory experience.
The following years of experience meet the journeyman-level experience requirement: air conditioning, heating, and refrigeration (8 years), carpentry (8 years), electrical (9 years), locksmith (8 years), painting (7 years), plumbing (9 years), or roofing (7 years).
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
*CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS* (Unless otherwise specified below, must possess at the time of appointment and must be maintained current throughout employment in this classification.
) Position(s) of this classification may require at the time of application, possession of the appropriate Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling Equipment Certification (Type I, II, III or Universal) for technicians (as required under Section 608 of the Clean Air Act, 1990).
Position(s) of this classification may require at the time of application, possession of a Journeyman or Master Plumber License from the State Plumbing Board of Louisiana.
Position(s) of this classification may require a valid Louisiana driver's license.
If license is required, must be maintained throughout employment in this position.

*EXAMINATION* Public Works Supervision exam required (may take up to 2 hours from test start time).

Test check-in is on a first come-first served basis.
There are occasions where the test room is filled to capacity and applicants are asked to return on another day for testing.
