The Qualification Reform Design Group has delivered its final recommendations for modernising Australia's VET qualifications system. These proposed changes present interesting possibilities, though implementation pathways are still to be determined. I can see significant benefits for TAFEs like Chisholm and the broader sector. The recommendations would give providers greater flexibility to design and deliver courses that truly meet local industry needs, while reducing administrative burden through streamlined assessment requirements. This would allow us to better leverage our teaching expertise with fewer prescriptive controls. One of the most exciting aspects is the opportunity to develop broader, more adaptable qualifications that serve multiple industries, with a stronger focus on knowledge and transferable skills to support career mobility. The proposals also pave the way for better pathways between qualifications and educational sectors. By reducing duplication across qualifications and training packages while improving alignment between education delivery and industry needs, these changes could significantly enhance VET's reputation as a valued educational pathway. These recommendations signal an important shift toward a more modern, responsive VET system that could better serve both learners and industry while reducing unnecessary complexity. Skills ministers met last Friday, September 20 to discuss the implementation of revised Standards for RTOs, set for public release this week. The updated Standards will come into effect in July 2025. Ministers also explored a phased approach to differentiated regulatory supervision by ASQA, tailored to the diverse needs of the VET sector. Round 3 Micro-credentialing Grants now open! 🎉 Eligible organisations can apply for up to $250,000 per project to design, develop and deliver one or more micro-credentials aligned to specific industry skill gaps. The priority areas for micro-credentials are: ✅ Digital or technical disruption that requires skill bridging or updating. ✅ Regulatory, licensing, or other compulsory requirement that imposes new requirements on industry and workers. ✅ Emerging health and safety issues and/or protecting vulnerable workers. ✅ Other emerging issues that are not addressed through existing vocational education and training products. This round builds on the success of the previous projects delivered under the Queensland Workforce Strategy. NDIS Enforcement data and Trends! The NDIS commission has now released a digital online section to track banning orders etc. https://lnkd.in/gNPeT9NG I have reviewed this data and here is my summary of the orders from Jan 2024 to November 2024. 📊 Key Statistics: Banning Orders: So far in 2024, the Commission issued 62 banning orders to providers and workers, marking a 25% increase compared to the same period in 2023. Compliance Notices: There was a 160% surge in compliance notices, reflecting the Commission's proactive stance in addressing non-compliance. Revocations of Registration: An 80% rise in registration revocations underscores the commitment to removing non-compliant providers from the NDIS ecosystem. 📈 Trends Observed: Increased Enforcement: The Commission's actions have led to a six-fold increase in fines and penalties, totaling $4 million in 2023–24. Enhanced Oversight: A significant investment of $142.6 million in 2023–24 has bolstered the Commission's workforce, nearly doubling its size to 1,036 staff members. Ministers 🔍 Types of Orders: Banning Orders: These prohibit individuals or organizations from providing NDIS-funded supports or services, either permanently or for a specified period. Compliance Notices: Written directives requiring providers or workers to rectify specific non-compliant behaviors or practices. Revocations of Registration: The cancellation of a provider's registration due to serious breaches of NDIS standards. 👉 Implications for Providers: 1️⃣ Continuous Compliance: Maintain adherence to NDIS Practice Standards through regular internal audits and staff training on the standards 2️⃣ Proactive Measures: Implement robust internal controls to identify and address potential compliance issues before they escalate. 3️⃣ Participant-Centric Approach: Ensure that all services prioritise the safety, dignity, and well-being of participants. Our experience at Southern Hemisphere conducting evaluations and training MEL practitioners for nearly three decades has shown that even when MEL theory and systems are in place, organisations often struggle to make MEL part of their everyday practice and are also often not using evidence generated to improve their impact. Often this is due to “people dynamics” such as resistance to MEL, resistance to change, perceptions of failure, power dynamics and perceptions of MEL. In addition to having strong technical skills, it is critical for those co-ordinating or leading MEL to be equipped with process skills to make MEL work within organisations. Experienced evaluators Dena Lomofsky and Wilma Wessels-Ziervogel have designed a practical two-day course in Johannesburg May 30 and 31st to assist those co-ordinating or leading MEL in organisations to improve the way in which they navigate challenges faced in getting co-operation and participation to MEL.
