Broadmeadows, a prime industrial location, is experiencing a surge in demand for modern logistics and industrial spaces. According to research undertaken by Colliers, Melbourne's North has recorded substantial rental growth, with prime rents increasing by 29.9% year-on-year due to critically low vacancy rates and limited supply of land. "The successful sale of 1 Broadfield Road is testament to our ability to continue to perform for our investors through active value creation and considered execution,” said Charlie Buxton Executive Officer of Cadence Property Group. The transaction was managed by Colliers agents Nick O'Brien, Sean Thomson & Gavin Bishop together with Michael Green and Chris Jones from Cushman & Wakefield. Last year, Building Commission NSW introduced a feedback survey for matters involving building inspectors.   The most recent results showed a significant increase in satisfaction, ease of lodging a matter and increased trust in Building Commission NSW as the building regulator.   We are committed to engaging with industry and community to hear how we can improve our services. The AIIC has today lodged its submission to the consultation on Victoria's proposed Minimum Standards for Rental Properties and Rooming Houses. Our key recommendations include: ·      Amend the minimum standard for ceiling insulation to align with the ACT in the requirement to trigger an upgrade of ceiling insulation at R2 and below. ·      In addition to use of Certified Insulation Installers, require an Insulation Installation Certificate to be issued once the insulation has been installed by a Certified Installer. ·      Continue subsidies to support individuals to become Certified Insulation Installers. ·      Amend the regulation to take a product agnostic approach, add reference to spray foam insulation, and consider a requirement that product used has an independent third-party building product certification. ·      Amend the pre-insulation installation electrical safety checklist meaning to include a requirement that power, light, and other circuits are derated to allow for being completely or partially surrounded by thermal insulation. ·      Provide some financial support for insulation to assist with implementation of the standard. ·      Invest in audit and compliance activities to support the implementation of the minimum standard. Following the launch of the Australian Half-Year Construction Market View, Matthew Mackey FRICS, Executive Director Cost & Commercial Management, recently featured on Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) to discuss the ongoing challenges the construction industry is facing. Regarding the substantial housing targets set by the state and federal governments, Matt said: "When you look at what's been delivered over the last few years - what's been approved, started on site and actually delivered - those stats are well below the thresholds we're talking about in terms of current housing targets. Even with the market responding as it normally would, the targets would still be considered very ambitious. And with the issues we’ve got at the moment with rising labour costs, skills shortages, rising insolvencies and constrained capacity and supply chains, it's going to be very interesting to see if we can get anywhere near the targets."
