Next up we have the crazy and always hilarious Paul McCarty. Paul will he presenting "Repo Swatting: How to delete anyone's source code repository anonymously". Paul will discuss a new attack called Repo Swatting identified in major SCM providers including GitHub, GitLab, and Gitea. He identified the attack and theorized that it could be weaponized to take developer resources offline. He was correct. Swatting is a terrible practice as it allows malicious attackers to target unsuspecting, innocent people by using law enforcement as a directed weapon. I have continued to see the tech sector's growth since I co-founded FinTechNZ in 2016. I had numerous conversations with the previous Government and spoke on TVNZ about the need for a coordinated effort, so I agree with Dr Claire Robinson. A good example is Open Banking, we have been talking about it for years but with no unified strategy, it has stagnated, until very recently. We know New Zealand has the capability, we have a number of companies "taking it the rest of the world" My view is that we need a technology task force with key stakeholders from each sector, technology, education, and others to unify the strategy. This allows the TT to discuss and create new strategies, products, and solutions to help resolve our generational issues and grow our underproductive economy, create jobs, attract investment, work with other educational providers to share IP, and create home talent. Like the UK we have concentrations of certain sectors in geographical locations, the one main difference is an overarching governance structure. I have spoken with Hon Judith Collins KC MP and Christopher Luxon about this concept, now It just needs to be brought to life, I am sure it would not take much to bring key stakeholders across the entire technology sector together if we all saw the "Big Picture" Would you want to be part of generational change for everyday kiwis? #timetobebold #technologyunification #NZTechnologystrategy2024andbeyond

As a healthcare professional, the recent findings from "Australia's AI Imperative" report by John Mangan are impossible to ignore. Australia's narrowing economic base, as evidenced by its declining Economic Complexity Index (ECI), leaves us vulnerable to economic shocks. By integrating AI, we can: ✅ Boost GDP by $200 billion annually ✅ Create 150,000 jobs by 2030 ✅ Diversify our economy ✅ Drive sustainable growth The implications for our healthcare system and the nation's economic growth are profound. 🔑 Key Findings: ▪️ Without widespread AI adoption, Australia risks losing A$35.7 billion per year until 2027. ▪️ Embracing AI could boost GDP by $200 billion annually and create 150,000 jobs by 2030. ▪️ AI is projected to add US$15.7 trillion to the global economy by 2030. ▪️ Early adoption could secure a 26% GDP increase for Australia. ▪️ The data show an increase in GDP from 2023-2027 due to expanded AI of between 22.5% (US $395 billion) and 28% (US $486 billion), implying an average growth rate for the AI-infused economy of 4.43% to 4.82%. We can’t manage what we don’t measure and we can’t grow what we don’t fund. While the sucking sound of Aus super and VC investment going to US companies is becoming deafening, the Australian Business Growth Fund backing an ambitious cohort of innovator companies has flown under the radar. If Aus has a sovereign future, as opposed to vassal state dependence writ large and irreversible, we need 10 more commercially and globally funds to acknowledge a long forgotten asset class.

I have mixed feelings about this; I can absolutely see the value, used correctly. Augmenting an already stretched capability with an 'assistant' level process seems to be the right thing to do, given the global shortage of people working in this area, and with an aging population. On the other hand, show me the certifications and standards that would make this acceptable, clarity around IP, liability, etc., vs. 'letting it loose in the wild'. At some point (and I think that's sooner than companies think) consumers are going to balk at yet another $9.99 a month charge for "internet". My kids have the base model Subaru Crosstrek and with CarPlay their experience is superior, and way cheaper, than any other car experience out there. If the new car experiences used the cell data plan from people's phones as the default, then perhaps this will have legs but until the user value proposition is delivered it's all "hope is our strategy". Underestimating what it takes to bring apps to platforms is another huge blind spot. Took Tesla a *long* time to get Audible yet it's one of the most important apps to me along with BBC Sounds (still not there) All been on CarPlay/Android Auto for years. Why? User base. Target CarPlay/Android Auto and you have billions of users to target. Even in GM's most optimistic goals are millions of users.
