Cross regions DR and backup have been common practice. Such architecture design usually span across multiple accounts with the same cloud provider. However, this peculiar incident has highlighted the importance of multi cloud strategy, which eliminates the unlikely single point of failure.

For organizations, it is a cost, compliance, and convenience decision between keeping backups in the same region vs. across regions vs. across providers. Are SREs just 'rebranded' ops people to handle the mess in production? Absolutely not. Site Reliability Engineers (SREs) are integral to AppDev from day one, not just when things go live. One example is: which is the best framework for our app considering long-term scalability and reliability? This is the initial design/ architecture stage. As a Site Reliability Engineer, you’ll often be called upon to get involved in discussions about choosing the right technology stack. One such debate that may come up is Jetty vs Netty. Though Jetty and Netty may sound interchangeable, they cater to very different needs in the server-side Java landscape. I authored a blog to highlight the key differences, helping SREs make informed decisions tailored to their application’s needs. The two most significant barriers to progressing to the next level of AI (not AGI, please; that is pure speculation) are power and compute. Quantum computing provides the solution to both of these problems. There is a lot of rewriting and realignment, but this is necessary. Microsoft would have a significant advantage if they could work on Microsoft Azure Quantum Computing and win there. #quantumcomputing #microsoft #AI #greenenergy

This article from Harness CEO Jyoti Bansal on an effort they undertook to survey 500 developers is eye opening. "Yet almost 70% of developers wait more than a week to finish [code reviews]." Waiting is the worst waste you can introduce into any system. We've spent decades finding ways to decouple, optimatize, and parallel activities in order to get to production. And yet, here we are. Yet a plurality of us have to wait a week or more just to hear back on what we've produced. Talk with your teams. Ask them how long they wait. Then ask them how they might create smaller changes, smaller batches, more frequent pushes in order to move code along. And then make those changes, a little at a time, with some observables (both qualitative and quantitative), in order to measure efficacy. They'll thank you for caring about getting the work done. Code will get to prod faster. The people who use the code will benefit from faster delivery. Everyone wins and feels good about it in the process. We're not growing crops. I wonder if the root of all problems in software is our general inability to comprehend size and scale. Everything from bad estimates, to premature optimisation, premature generalisation, poor abstraction and factoring, misunderstanding total cost of ownership, right sizing designs, the failure of microservices - it's failure to comprehend size.
