If no follow links do not have value and don't pass on PageRank, why are they reported in Google Search Console? I was confident this was the case before Google said it doesn't always ignore nofollow links. All the links in the image are from Google Search Console on a site we use for testing where some pages still have dummy content. The site predominately has no follow links from press and media sites using brand anchor text, and the rankings, for non-brand keywords, are improving fast. No follow links have always displayed in Google Seach Console so have always had and still have a significant value. And you shouldn’t ignore a relevant link opportunity just because it’s a no follow.

Some SEOs in the industry KNEW that Chrome could be a trojan horse for Google. Now - let me explain something as a concept - when you UNDERSTAND the concept it becomes easier to understand SEO. Firstly - the HARDEST THING for an algorithm to do is to be able to understand if content is GOOD/HELPFUL where it's not a single source of interpretation. If you took 100 people and gave them a webpage you would get mixed feedback, 30 people might find the content really good, 20 might think it's OK, 50 might think its terrible. It's FAR HARDER to evaluate content than it is to aggregate USER BEHAVIOUR to look at behaviours, outcomes, pogo, session performance etc. So - what COULD you do? 1. You create a browser to go with your product (search engine > browser) 2. You build your ecosystem to work with that product 3. You deploy a mobile OS with that product being a part of it 4. You gain MASS MARKET ADOPTION 5. You then collect "performance" data relating to the application 6. That performance and usage data morphs over time into something innocent "Help make searches and browsing better" Now, as with anything, this is based on my thoughts - but, Google has access to a serious amount of data, your Chrome reports telemetry data - that data can be a blend of performance and usage data, interaction data. Now imagine if anonymised (user) telemetry data could INDIRECTLY paint a picture of a users interaction with content? Imagine we could see the X & Y coordinates of clicks? scroll? link clicks? Could an INNOCENT policy of collecting data to improve the product ultimately give Google the power to shape and refine what is considered "HELPFUL?"
