This mishap left over half a million UniSuper members unable to access their accounts for nearly a week, as reported by The Guardian. Fortunately, UniSuper had a backup account with another cloud provider, allowing services to be restored by May 2. This incident underscores the critical importance of having multiple backups and a robust disaster recovery plan. In recent years, vulnerable legacy enterprise networks have migrated to full cloud solutions to improve security, scalability, and functionality. However, this shift has often come at the cost of data sovereignty and data lifecycle ownership. I am confident that, eventually, we will need to consider a mix of data sovereignty solutions and offshore computer processing. A likely return to edge computing, which emphasises local data storage and enhanced protection, is on the horizon. I look forward to helping our customers diversify their computing storage and processing capabilities by shifting from cloud computing to edge computing. Let’s see how this plays out!

Interesting report released today on Gen AI. Generative AI adoption is expected to add $76 billion per year to the New Zealand economy by 2038—with #GenAI to more than double the current rate of productivity, saving Kiwi workers 275 hours on average per year.   According to the new report for Microsoft, conducted by Accenture New Zealand, a higher investment in skills, trust, policy, and enterprise-level AI adoption is critical for New Zealand to fully realise the potential benefits.
