📅 **A Day in the Life of a FIFO Parent** 💼 Being a FIFO (Fly-In-Fly-Out) parent is a unique journey filled with mixed emotions. The days leading up to returning to work are often the hardest. Tears are shed, promises are made, and deep down, we wish for nothing more than to stay with our families forever. 😢❤️ Many of us have told our kids, "This will be the last trip; I'll be home more," but fears about providing for their future make us persist. The struggle is real, and it’s not easy to break away from the cycle. 🛫👨‍👧‍👦 We often feel trapped due to a lack of skills or the right mindset to create a different lifestyle. But it doesn’t have to be this way. 🌟 I am in the same boat as you however, I had being introduced into this amazing community of like minded individuals and everyday I am working towards achieving the things that matter most to me. The journey isn't a bed of roses but I am determined and willing to achieve great things solely because l need Financial Independence to accomplish some personal goals and have location freedom so l can be present for my sons. Yesterday was a big one for me - I attended Overhead Crane Training for the first time, and guess what? I'm now Officially Certified to operate it at the workshop! 🎉 As someone who’s always admired those big cranes from the ground, finally being able to work with one felt both exciting and a bit nerve-wracking. But the training really opened my eyes to just how much skill, focus, and teamwork it takes to operate it safely. Some key things I learned: ⚠️ Safety first: it’s all about staying aware of your surroundings. Even a small mistake can have big consequences. 👂Listen to the signalman: Trust me, they’re your best friend up there 🤝! Clear communication is everything. 🛠️ Precision > Speed It’s not a race – it’s about smooth and controlled movements to avoid accidents. 👀 Constant vigilance: Watching out for obstacles, people, and load balance is essential. Overall, it was an incredible experience, and I’m beyond grateful to the trainers for making it so practical and hands-on. To my fellow newbies – Don’t be afraid to try new things! It feels great to step out of your comfort zone and unlock a new skill. Little bit disillusioned actually... OK so what I am going to say is mainly just a rant/ vent, I made all the decisions I am going to relate, and I know that life is rarely "fair". Back in the day, when I had my Master 4, I learned that Australian Maritime College, where I was working, were going to start DP training. Seeing a opportunity ahead, I parted with 5k and thought this was a good thing to be onto and on the ground floor too, so to speak. I didn't even have a WatchKeepers ticket, but hey, as long as there was a WatchKeeper with me, I could and did drive on dp vessels and eventually got enough desk time with P&0 and Go Offshore to sit my advanced ticket. Another 5k and I had the certificate, somewhere along the track I also managed to fit in my Master <500gt. I did which ever jobs I could find, AOS were my main employers, and did some dredging etc. However, didn't get much DP time even with advanced certificate. Now I am fully aware that that the first word I DP is dynamic, and being an emerging technology, the regulations do need to keep up with advancements. Anyway, then came the biggest swindle of modern times and all the tomfoolery that went along with it, including a lack of seafaring opportunities in my neck of the woods, anyway. So I made do with employment opportunities as a rigger in the construction industry. I also lost my son, which incapacitated me from working for some time. So, as I noticed that the industry was picking up, I decided to get back on the boats, and invested a further 13 or more thousand dollars in revalidating my master <500t. However, now it seems like I am unemployable without starting from scratch my DP training at a minimum cost of 5 k each course and honestly, the kit hasn't changed that much since original. The point is, I feel that the maritime institute are exploiting the DP operators with their regulations and constant need for upgrading. You may disagree, I probably won't respond to comments, as I rarely log into this platform and it's the only social media I use, but I will read them some day. And I guess, if you are still reading by now, that this is just a whinge.

The gas of Queensland is mostly owned by Chinese, Japanese and Korean national gas companies. They are exporting it all leaving East coast short of gas with escalating prices that are stoking the fires of inflation. No other Hydrocarbon exporting nation leaves it's home market short of energy whilst exporting it. Those governments know that they will be for the chopping board. But not Australia. The media ignores the issue and Canberra just goes along to the tune of the foreign gas exporters. Even allowing expansion of the exports. We are screwed with this leadership in Canberra, but what to expect from a city that allowed the British to use Australian diggers as nuclear test guinea pigs. I cannot wait for the next election.... but did not the coalition allow this to happen.... maybe time for a French type of revolution... we just need some tradies to build the guillotines
