RoyceComm Nine Newspapers & the Resolve Political Monitor paints a stark picture around cost of living biting alongside a sliding Labor primary vote, a firmer Coalition post Voice referenda l bounce still very strong > 1/3 of electorate 3rd party voting cohort. 2PP all square ALP 50 / Coalition 50.The Age Over at The Australian & the long-standing ‘Newspoll’ has similar trend lines but a stronger Labor primary (a 33% instead of a just 30%) & a retained 51/49% 2PP across party outcome. Three weeks out from the all-critical Federal Budget, technically the last of this first-term Govt as an election will be due by May 2025. AN INVITATION TO JOIN OUR CAMPAIGN We are gearing up to run an effective campaign in support of the ABC at the next federal election, and we invite you to join us. The election will be sometime in the next 10 months, and our campaign will start next month, with a planning workshop to agree on seats, messages, and tactics. The campaign will be co-ordinated nationally, in collaboration with ABC Alumni, but most activity will be seat by seat, face-to-face, trying to make sure that the voters deliver a parliament which has the maximum number of pro-ABC MPs. Key Goals of the Campaign: 🔹 Inclusion of support for the ABC in the campaign policies of all the major political parties. 🔹 Engage ABCFV Groups, members, supporters, and volunteers in campaigning for the ABC 🔹 Build ABCFV’s social media presence and our links to young people 🔹 Raise awareness of the needs of the ABC amongst all voters, with a view to influencing votes. 🔹 Inform voters of the respective positions on the ABC of candidates in selected seats. STATEMENT FROM VRCA Regional Victorian Building Industry in Crisis: Urgent Government Intervention Needed The Victorian Regional Chamber Alliance (VRCA) is calling for immediate Government action as the residential building industry throughout the State faces an unprecedented crisis. Despite the high demand for housing, regional and rural areas are witnessing a major downturn in all aspects of the housing and residential building industry. Land sales in new subdivisions have virtually stopped and agents are reporting a notable increase in land resales, where the current market value is significantly below the initial purchase price. Prospective homebuilders are therefore experiencing increased difficulty in securing bank finance to build and alarmingly, there has been an unprecedented number of defaults on land settlements. This downward spiral flows onto builders, who are unable to secure stable work which in turn impedes the commencement of much-needed dwelling construction projects across regional Victoria. Earlier this year Victoria experienced its lowest dwelling approvals in over a decade. January saw a staggering 9.8% decline in approvals compared to the previous month, illustrating a severe slowdown in construction activity. This trend underlines the financial strain faced by industry players, threatening the stability of the entire sector. Furthermore, the erosion of confidence in the building sector has led to a notable shift in consumer behaviour, with prospective buyers increasingly favouring established homes over new land and build options. The absence of first-home buyers, residential investors and upgraders in the current land market further exacerbates the challenges faced by industry stakeholders. “The Victorian Government must urgently intervene to address these pressing issues and safeguard the future of the building industry,” says the VRCA. “The Government has set a target of 80,000 new homes in Victoria in the next 10 years. Who is going to build them? Small construction companies are going out of business, looking to commercial work to survive or exiting the industry. “Supply chain issues continue to cause gaps in the construction process, and sub-contractors are stood down until materials arrive, so they too are looking for work outside of residential projects. “Immediate measures such as reassessing land tax policies, revisiting windfall-gains tax regulations, and implementing targeted financial support are essential to restore confidence and stimulate activity. “We call upon the Victorian Government to the prioritise regional and rural Victoria and take decisive action to mitigate the current crisis. "Recommendation 7: The committee recommends that the Australian Government establish a Digital Media Competency Fund... While this fund should have a strong focus on the digital media literacy of young Australians, it should also fund initiatives aimed at improving the digital media literacy of other groups at risk of being taken in by mis- and disinformation, including older Australians and those in regional areas." Two years ago, we had the privilege of working with Christopher Capstick from Civilmart to create a video showcasing their support for the Longwood Football and Netball Club in rural Victoria. What started as a project to highlight CivilMart's community engagement quickly revealed the club's profound impact on the local community. When we arrived in Longwood, we were struck by the beautiful surroundings and the warmth of the locals. The club is more than just a place for sport; it's the heart of the community. It provides a safe and constructive environment for young people, a social hub for adults, and a source of pride for everyone involved. As one local aptly put it, "If Longwood lost its club, it really loses its identity." The video we created captured the essence of this remarkable community and the gratitude they feel towards their sponsors, including CivilMart. It also showcased the club's incredible journey, rebuilding from scratch and thriving with the support of dedicated individuals and sponsors. More importantly, the video has helped the football club secure additional sponsorships from businesses that are now proudly supporting them. It’s a testament to what a community can achieve when supported by dedicated partners. This project is a perfect example of how our strategic approach to video production can create win-win outcomes.
