Thank you to Tony Ponton and Phil G. for giving me a copy of their book "Govern Agility" at this year's Agile Australia conference. I like the concept of “stanchions of governing agility” — conductive leadership, sensible transparency, structured patterns of work, data-driven reasoning, and a foundation of humanity. Just read a good article in HBR on Agile Planning. https://lnkd.in/gcXtyTey Planning in an Agile organisation opens up a number of challenges. Long term, inflexible plans may be easier to build alignment on, but they ultimately hinder a company from pivoting and flexing its strategy in uncertain markets. It’s better to distribute planning, so that planning is made by autonomous and empowered teams who are closest to the soft and hard data needed to make good decisions. But this brings its own challenges - at scale, how can these teams align their plans to work together and achieve shared goals? In my view, there’s 2 critical pillars: 1. Simple Rules defining a strategy - any team should have a number of simple, well understood principles to follow, that when followed ensure general alignment to organisational goals. Complex strategic modes won’t cut it - teams have to make decisions fast without going back to the strategy primer to figure out exactly how to fit in. 2. Transparency of plans and goals - when teams set their goals, they should make them transparent within the organisation - both to anchor the team itself to them, and to create a shared language when communicating and collaborating with other teams. By being transparent on their goals, teams can find the points of alignment and opportunities to collaborate to enhance value. #strategy #agile #planning

🚀 🚀 Scrum Masters play a pivotal role in guiding teams towards success. According to Bhanu Golconda's book - Coaching the agile dragon (Don't know why its so underrated), every Scrum Master should embrace the mindset of a leader, challenging the traditional view of their role(ie, to facilitate ceremonies). Leadership, in this context, involves guiding through complexity, empowering teams, driving improvement, bridging organizational gaps, and leading by example. By embracing their leadership role, Scrum Masters not only elevate their teams but also themselves. Thus scrum master should have a vision for their teams as a leader. What do you need to facilitate a workshop… Turns out, not much. Some desk space, agile principle cards, post-it notes & a sharpie will do For an on the fly workshop I facilitated with my client, it lead to some great discussion, with limited prep needed. I’d love to know what other techniques you use to facilitate those last minute workshops/conversations? Post in the comments ➡️
