One of the things I'm most proud of as we scaled Airbnb's recruiting process during hypergrowth is that we never let our obsession with candidate experience waver. If anything, it got better as we scaled. How? We... - Invested in a top tier recruiting coordination team. They are the real front-line of the whole thing. - Broke the entire candidate journey down and infused Airbnb's values into the experience. We didn't just talk to you about "being a host". You felt what experiencing a good host was like. - Personalization: When you walked into the office, you felt like we expected you, and you weren't just a number. Things like your name written on the whiteboard with a note, a printed schedule with your interviewers and the areas of focus etc. As we scaled, we didn't drop this, we just found a better process that could flex with the volume. But why did we do spend so much energy on the candidate experience? Simply put, we knew that how people felt during our interview process was a direct reflection on how the company would treat them once they joined. A company could out-compete us on any number of things, but we knew very few could beat us on making people feel like they BELONGED. Turns out that is inherently valuable to people. Now that I get to work with startups, I feel it's even more important to double down on an amazing candidate experience and try to infuse many of the specific tactics I learned at Airbnb into our guides. ❗ To the HIRING MANAGER wanting to secure the top APAC talent right now AND not lose out to your competitors. ❗ Three months ago, I was speaking to candidates who were only in ONE interview process, yours. This is no longer the case. Come September, I am now speaking to candidates on a daily basis who are in two, three sometimes four processes. Here are FOUR key things to follow to avoid losing out on top talent: ➡️ Speed - Long interview processes, unnecessary time to provide feedback will mean that you will lose out. Period. ➡️ Low-balling - Set the tone and build the momentum with a compelling and competitive offer. ➡️ Selling - Learn and breathe selling your business to candidates as much as you do to your customers. ➡️ Awareness - Post-covid companies compete on much more than just salary, product, brand. Are you on par with what your competitors are offering? This post might seem annoyingly obvious, preaching to the choir almost, but I can guarantee, often isn’t actually practiced. ✅ Be quick. ✅ Be compelling. ✅ Sell your worth. ✅ Know who you are up against. Hey companies...why is Dec/Jan the best time to kick off a hiring search? Because others aren't. A lot of companies are heads down driving towards the end of the year, with a soft slow down mid-Dec and then many (in Australia) aren't fully up and running again until the end of Jan. But guess what? Job seekers are ACTIVE. They're thinking about new year goals, many are hungry for something new, and they are not logged off. 💪 Strike while you have the advantage. 💪 Strike while the momentum is high and the competition is low. 💪 Strike early if you want a their start date before Q1 ends. "Would you like to promote your business on the very best platform for free?" A question for any #NeuroTech start-up leaders in my network (along with any other company leaders for that matter). "What is this platform?" You're on it right now. Take the US for example - where the majority of Start-ups in my market are.... It's by far the global leading country in the use of LinkedIn. As of April this year, LinkedIn had an audience reach in the US of 230 million users. That's a massive 69% of the population! Specialist industry publications are great for promoting your cause, but show me any professional media platform with a wider reach than LinkedIn. You need to be showcasing your business here. Of the circa 350 NeuroTech start-ups I'm aware of, only a fraction of them are doing this. Some of those are in stealth mode - sure - but those looking for exposure, frankly it's madness if you're not promoting your business on this platform. All of your target audience are here: 👉 Patients 👉 KOL's / influencers 👉 Investors  👉 Physicians 👉 Strategic partners 👉 Candidates / potential future employees etc.... How many followers do you have on your company page? Can you task someone with boosting this? You can invite 250 people per month.  Fill a virtual room with relevant people and spread your word. And that's just the start. It's not complicated. FYI apart from repeat business and referrals the majority of business I win these days comes from inbound inquires as a result of my LinkedIn content. Time to get onboard? PS. Shout out to Hoxo and Sean Anderson (and Simon Curtis) for enlightening me on the potential of LinkedIn several years ago.

Recruitment and ChatGPT... Is it saving time or not?    Cover Letters and AI, we had a conversation with a client recently who is inundated with applications and great cover letters. He spent 6 hours in one day going through them!   The cover letters were getting him excited about the quality of applications... Until he viewed their CV's.    He couldn't work out why their cover letters were so great but their CV's and experience weren't hitting the mark..    ChatGPT, that's why. Here's an example of a advert we have going into ChatGPT, and here's your perfect cover letter...    Very easy, takes two seconds. Don't get me wrong, ChatGPT is a great tool when used properly!    But here he was 6 hours later and still not through all the applications...
