47% of marketers drive towards performance marketing because it is "easier to communicate the returns". Marketers are in a rough spot. The pressure to prove ROI with limited budget in unrealistically short timeframes is immense. Unfortunately, brands that continue to descend into the pit short-termism, the more fragile and unlikely they become to ever emerge from their reliance on performance tactics. On the flip side, marketers who are brave enough to fight the good fight, invest in brand and long-term growth will, I believe, come out on top. Former Carat and Dentsu Aegis Network ANZ boss Simon Ryan reckons the new breed of nimble holdcos can outmanoeuvre the old guard – and he’s still planning to run one globally, just as his old boss Jerry Buhlmann did, helming the business that bought the smaller one he co-founded, and then the bigger fish that snapped up Aegis. With private equity grafted muscle, Ryan reckons he’s skipped five years of scale grind – but still gets to act like an independent. Now he’s hunting acquisitions, with content and creative first off the bat. He thinks local media owners need a Kerry Packer-esque bruiser in the face of global platform onslaught as jumpy marketers pile into channels that claim a direct link to sales. Nine keeping costs tight with the media group expecting more falls in advertising spend in the current June quarter. In a presentation to the Macquarie annual conference, Nine said the current operating environment was "challenging". The metro FTA market fell by about 13% in the March quarter, marginally better than February guidance of a mid-teens percentage decline. Nine says a similar dip is expected in the June quarter. 🇦🇺 Aussies are increasingly engaging with podcasts - a great signal for advertisers as audio remains one of the fastest-growing digital channels. According to Spotify's Global Podcast Trends Tour, 63% of Australians trust their favourite podcast host more than their favourite social media influencer. This high level of trust translates into action, with two-thirds of respondents taking action after hearing a podcast ad, searching for the product, making a purchase, or simply talking about it with others. Not only are listeners engaged, but their interests are diversifying. Spotify found that categories like Religion & Spirituality, Business & Technology, and Society & Culture are experiencing growth in Australia. Science podcasts, in particular, are surging with a huge 60% increase in listeners! Spotify connects advertisers with over half of all podcast listeners in Australia. What this means for brands and advertisers is reaching your target audience is easier than ever with podcasts. Not sure about collapsing but evolving is probably a better way to put it. Key take out - retail media as we know has quickly become another major channel for effective measurement of outcomes due to the data imbedded in their businesses and proximity to POS. I find it interesting that at a time when digital media is being implanted into mainstream media that Seven Group would do this. Are we not moving to an addressable media view. Are we isolating the legacy TV business? For focus? Realistically it needs support not separation. Perhaps there will be a sale with a trimmed down Seven Network. I am tipping the next few financial year is going to be tough for the Group.... #media #BusinessStrategy #equityfunds #digital

So I suppose any prediction is a good prediction in todays fast paced environment of tech advances BUT what will remain for the short term at least, even with tech artificially aligning artificial segments with artificial MMM projections is the strategy behind the content with the strategy of how many ads in what 'environment' that best engages. Sure you can do AI models to develop strategy where it would be placed but it will need human oversite. Nothing new hear apart from the complications presented with more and more channels of communication plus the walled gardens issue. What is interesting is that the higher frequencies required for a conversion which then points straight to the variety of content needed.
