How you can get more referrals from your clients ⬇️ Ah, referrals. So beautiful right? There’s nothing more satisfying than being approached by a new client and they say they referred by another client 🙏 Tip 1 - Build trust and credibility amongst your pre-existing clients This works amazingly well. The reason? If your clients can rely on you to get the job done to the required quality and timeframe, they will refer others your way. You solve a problem for them, and you’ve already proven to your pre-existing clients that you can do just that. Tip 2 - Just ask! If you have a good relationship with your clients, there’s absolutely zero harm in asking if they’d mind referring people to you should the opportunity arise. You’d be surprised how happy people are to help you out! Tip 3 - Check up on past clients Check up on your past clients that you don’t work with! Quite often, even if they don’t end up working with you again, they’d still be happy to refer people to you. This is assuming that they’re past clients for a reason that isn’t negative 😂 but you get the gist. Follow up with old clients, hope they become clients again, and ask for referrals regardless! If a client asks you to reduce your fees, try this. (1) Question if they’re being truthful. Some clients will seek reduced rates just for the sake of it. Under the pretense of “budgets are stretched, can you help us out”? It’s usually not true. (2) Resist the urge to avoid discomfort. I get it. You want to cave and cut their rates to solve the situation and keep the client. But you didn’t manufacture the situation. They did. You’re playing into their hand and showing your fear/desperation by caving. (3) Tell them you’ll consider the request if they’re open to running the math with you. You’ll need their YoY revenue data, transparency over what other marketing spend is doing, and their goals (if they’ve changed). If they don’t agree to this, the request isn’t fair and triggers a different conversation… (4) Run the math and prove your worth. Say your agency service ROI is 8:1. Pretty common example, but use whatever your reality is. Then, say you’re a media agency charging a 20% fee (swap this for whatever service and price you offer). - The client is earning $8 for every $1 Google/Meta/Microsoft earns - You’re earning $0.20 for every $1 Google/Meta/Microsoft earns - That’s $0.20 for every $8 revenue you’re driving for your client - So the client is earning 40x your fee (5) Put your math to the client. “Hey Jesse, I ran the math. It looks like your ROI of 800% is above target and you’re profitable. I’m unsure if you’ve ever looked at it this way, but if we’re doing our job right, you earn at least $40 for every $1 we earn from this arrangement. We feel this value merits our fees, but please call me if you feel otherwise.” (6) Offer the reduced option if the math doesn’t work. IF the math doesn’t work favorably (say, their business is struggling or their budget is stretched too thin), reduce your fee in exchange for a reduction of service and value provided. They don’t get the same for less. If they want a PPC fee reduced from 18% to 12%, that’s fine, but your deliverables (hours, channels, meetings, etc) are cut by a third. They have to understand the consequences of needlessly squeezing their agency. ____ So now the client has a choice. The ball is back in their court. You’ve proven your worth and still given them an option to reduce fees. You can in no way be considered inflexible or uncooperative. If they leave in a hissy fit bc you wouldn’t take bread from your team’s table, that’s on them and a blessing in disguise. Will you try it and let me know how it goes? Snacky 💙

“I’ve got too many calls booked act fast!”I read that and my BS radar goes from 0 to 100. But for the first time in my life, that’s my truth. It’s weird because, on one side, we’ve got marketing bros lying through their teeth about outcomes. “$50k all day!” 🤮 On the other side, we’ve got legit people with experience solving real problems, humbly making bank 😊 It’s a fine line. We need to market ourselves to make money. But we don’t want to brag about making money to make more money. But we are proud. And we do need to prove results. And, inspire people one or two steps behind. I’ve shared digital product results before. $60k course launches. With a caveat: I tell the whole story. No success is overnight. It’s months or years of hard work culminating in a moment. The response? 90% learn something valuable from it and feel inspired. 10% feel annoyed. Odds I can live with. This is why I’ve been building my new service, Content Sparring, in public. The good, the bad, the wins, the ups and downs. If you still hate the numbers, that’s ok. You can’t please everyone. So, I launched my new service last week and we’re at: -5 new clients (paid) -6 said “yes” (invoice sent) -8 calls books (on the calendar) -4 interested (no action taken yet) MRR added in a “week”: $7k Potential MRR if interested close: ~$20k Prices vary depending on if you choose asynch support. Keeping prices low for this first batch to prove the offer more. Could double. Here’s what the offer is: Experienced writers (solos or in-house) meet with an experienced editor/coach (me) to: -Get out of the "my content feels stale" phase -Identify bad habits they've developed (due to noone editing them for years) and fix 'em -Ping pong with someone as good as them on strategic content decisions (I'm thinking about writing about this, here's why, here's how I'm thinking of approaching it, what do you think) So far, I’m working with: -A fractional CMO on his social content (wants to build more authority) -A growth consultant on her social and email content (wants to feel less grumpy about content & get back to top of her game) -An in-house director of content marketing on her emails, sales pages, and blog articles (wants to identify areas for upskilling) -A startup founder on his social content (wants to build awareness and authority) -A customer researcher on her social content (wants to be more effective at thought leadership that changes minds) Potential clients are all soloprenuers or founders in the B2B space. Follow-ups are quick wins. Last month, I spent 2 minutes setting up an account and connecting to Xero on Text Reload for our client. Sent 127 texts, got 30 responses. 11 people re-booked for service because of it. Always follow-up. The hard part is done—making the first contact. A simple reminder can turn mild interest into a closed deal. Thoughts?

Hey Hey just wanted to jump in here with some of the marketing mistakes I see Tradies & Contractors making when it comes to marketing. 👉 5 Biggest Mistakes Carpenters make when it comes to marketing their business: 1 Not having a Lead Generation Strategy. Are you just relying on referrals from mates, other trades or recommendations from past clients? That's not a longer-term or consistent strategy for growth. This is the single most important thing in your business and will set you up for success or failure. 2 Not having a Website or paying a fortune for a website that does not convert. I've seen both of these. As a minimum you need to have a basic user friendly website for your business. If you dont it's hurting your business without you even realising. If you do have a fancy website that doesn't have the right call to actions then that's also hurting your business as opportunities are being missed. 3 Not having a Google My Business Profile that optimised and complete. Even better having a google photographer come out and take a photo of your factory so you can rank better in the maps section for your area. This will help a stack when people are googling your biz. 4 Not having an Instagram and Facebook for your business and posting on them regularly. These days most of your potential clients are checking you out on socials before they even call you out for a quote. If you don't have socials this is your sign to get started today. If you do its important to make sure you are posting valuable content. Such as images and videos on site, before and afters, talking to camera about materials, jobs, team, slow motion and time lags. 5 Not having a Database/CRM- Do you have a way of following up and remarketing to past clients, old leads, anyone who calls your business. If not you are missing out on potential business and $$ . Gone are the days when you can just rely on people calling you, you need to keep in touch and follow up. A high FB ROAS could be hurting your brand. ↳ This is the reason why ... Last month, I audited the Facebook ad account of an 8-figure supplement brand. They were spending $175k a month with a ROAS well above their target. But this was having little to no effect on their bottom line. Why? Their entire account was using 7-day click 1-day view attribution, which resulted in significant over-attribution. When including 1-day view attribution as a large brand with multiple marketing channels, Facebook takes more credit than it should. This is best explained using an example: John is swiping through Instagram stories, when someone rings his doorbell and he goes to answer it. He leaves his phone open, and the stories keep swiping through and eventually lands on one of your ads while he is still at the door, and then moves on to the next story. John's account has technically 'seen' your ad, even though he has no idea who your brand is. Later that day John is scrolling through TikTok, sees one of your ads, clicks through and buys right there and then. Even though TikTok is what drove the sale, Facebook will still claim that as a purchase as your ad was 'viewed' by John's account. But Facebook had nothing to do with it. So you increase your Facebook ad budget because of this apparent high ROAS. But your brand's bottom line is unaffected. This is an extreme example, but with people using social media every minute of every day, scenarios like this happen a lot more than you think. The solution? For larger brands with multiple marketing channels, your Facebook campaigns should be optimised for 1-day click or 7-day click most of the time. This may under-attribute on Facebook slightly, but it only attributes high-intent purchases. Whereas the standard Facebook attribution, which includes 1-day view addition, can cannibalise your bottom line. By making you think you have made all these extra sales, which in reality these are phantom sales captured by a generous attribution setting. This leads you to think that your Facebook campaigns are doing great. When your bank account is telling a whole different story. This may not be the case for every brand, but it is definitely something to watch out for. Always remember: All attribution settings are wrong, they are just varying degrees of wrong. Some help your business, others harm it.
