None of it is looking at what I consider the root cause: the lack of creative and brave leadership.....leaders wedded to old paradigms risk becoming obsolete in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. The real crisis is not productivity but imagination. This emphasizes the danger of focusing solely on efficiency and cost reduction."

What are the most important policies for all associations? One of the most important functions of an NFP Board is developing, implementing, and reviewing key policies. These are critical for volunteer Boards as they often act as a reference or endorsement of their values and culture. Here are some examples that every association should have: 😎Code of Conduct The Code of Conduct outlines the ethical and proper practices that board members, staff, and associations must follow. These may include, but are not limited to: Diligence and a willingness to participate fully as a member of the Board while being able to dedicate enough time to its governance. Not disclosing confidential and non-public information related to the association and its activities. Ensure that each member of the Board is given the same opportunity to express their views and their opinions are offered the same weight as their peers. Remain transparent with stakeholders regarding the association's performance. Publicly and privately support the organisation. 😎Privacy Policy The privacy policy protects the organisation and allows it to carry out its mission to the best of its ability. Additionally, all members should be aware of and agree to the privacy policies. 😎Media Policy Your media policy is critical because, as a non-profit organisation, there may be times when you will be interacting with the media to achieve your goals. To prevent misrepresentation in the media and to protect the association's reputation, the following should be included: Note that the policy is not intended to interrupt an individual's right to freedom of speech but to establish a healthy and effective working relationship with the media. 😎Finance Policy A finance policy is a big task, but it is arguably one of the most important aspects of any organisation. Robust financial procedures will keep your association afloat and help you achieve your goals. Things to consider when building a finance policy include: Keep up-to-date records and regularly generate reports on the association's financial health, including balance sheets. All information regarding the association's finances should be reported to the Board. Internal financial controls should be established to mitigate risk, accidental spending, and debt accumulation and limit who can access funds. 😎Risk Management Procedures to mitigate risk are essential and should be agreed to by all members and staff. The Board is responsible for ensuring an objective risk management strategy is in place so that any legal or strategic risks can be dealt with. A Board contrary plan will help maintain the organisation's regular operations during an unexpected disaster, such as a pandemic. Local Capability Fund (Western Australia)- Aboriginal Round. The Aboriginal Business Round provides funding support to Aboriginal Western Australian small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to enhance their business capability and capacity to supply to major Western Australian State or Local Government agencies, the Australian Government and the private sector. The level of funding support under the Aboriginal Business Round is 50% of eligible costs (excluding GST) up to a maximum funding level of $50,000 per successful applicant. To be eligible for funding, applicants must: Be an Aboriginal business (at least 50% owned by an Aboriginal interest); Be registered with either the Aboriginal Business Directory Western Australia or the Supply Nation’s Indigenous Business Direct; Be operating in a trade-exposed industry (or an industry that faces competition from other national or international SMEs); Be registered for GST for at least 12 months prior to application submission date; Have an Australian Business Number (ABN); Be a for-profit organisation or business, or an incorporated not-for-profit Aboriginal Corporation operating as a commercial enterprise; Have its principal place of business in Western Australia; Have been operating for at least 12 months in Western Australia at the time of submitting an application for funding; and Employ less than 200 people. https://lnkd.in/g8ZCmvvf

Having worked in local government for 15 years, I’ve seen firsthand how governance can be a double-edged sword. Too much can stifle innovation and slow progress, while too little means plans and strategies often fall by the wayside. In business, we often give too little governance to our business plans and strategies because day-to-day tasks take precedence. This lack of focus can derail our goals and hinder continuous improvement. That’s why I’m part of a business group that advocates for working on your business for 90 minutes a day—free from distractions. How many of you, whether in business or local government, dedicate this crucial time to strategic work? Remember, effective governance is about balance. It’s ensuring that your plans are not just created, but followed through with precision and adaptability. If you run projects then you'll know how much governance is palced around these. But your business plan? Probably less so. It's time to treat your business plan more like a project and make sure that you have the time to deliver the results, but also to apply just the right amount of governance to keep you on track. #hashiru #beasynner

As the year starts to draw to a close, it’s a natural time for reflection and planning. Many of us, whether on boards or in leadership roles often use this period to take stock of what worked, what didn’t, and where we want to go next. It’s a chance to reset priorities, refresh our strategy, and get clear on what the next year could hold. But let’s be honest: it’s not always easy to figure out the best path forward in such a fast-changing world. As we think about reviewing our strategic plans, here are a few key thought starters to keep in mind: 1. Reconnect with your customers: It’s easy to assume we know what our customers want, but how often do we really check in? Take the time to understand what’s working (and what’s not) from their perspective. Are your products or services still meeting their needs? What is your value proposition, and is it still as strong as it could be? 2. Look at the bigger picture: The market around us is constantly shifting. Have you taken a step back to understand what’s changed, not just internally, but externally too? What new risks or opportunities might be on the horizon? Staying ahead means being curious and open to what’s happening beyond the walls of your organisation. 3. Examine how things work internally: Let’s face it: no operating model is perfect. Where are the pain points or bottlenecks in your organisation? What’s not flowing as well as it could? This is the time to get honest about what needs fixing so you can build a smoother, more effective operation. 4. Don’t forget your people: Strategy is only as good as the team behind it. Are your people engaged and aligned? What support and tools do they need to thrive? Investing in your team’s wellbeing and capability is crucial. 5. Think about the long-term: In our society, there’s often a tendency to focus on the short term, immediate goals, quick wins, and near-term outcomes. While these are important, it’s equally vital to look further ahead. Where do you want to be in five or ten years, what are the steps you need to take now to get there? Start mapping out that pathway but build in the flexibility to adapt as markets shift and conditions change. Strategic foresight and agility can go hand in hand. Strategic planning is as much about asking the right questions as it is about finding the answers. It’s an opportunity to pause, reflect, and ensure your organisation is ready to adapt, compete, and thrive in the year ahead.

Today I announced new guidance to help agencies make smarter use of taxpayer dollars through private sector strategic leasing partnerships for infrastructure. This 'PPP-lite' approach ensures New Zealanders can get the quality infrastructure they need, where and when it's needed, while retaining flexibility to changing circumstances. interesting read from Michael Vardon, this legislation is a once in a generation opportunity to get it right and the way our flora, fauna and ecological communities are under extreme duress, it would be better if Government err on the side of caution and bring in the highest standards at the outset. start high then see what works, what needs improving and what might not be working, all the experts are saying the bill falls short. Let's hope government is listening.
