Our strategic partnership with BioCatch is making a difference for customers. While remote access scams remain a challenge, we are making it harder for the criminals behind them to target the three million customers who use our digital channels every month. Check out the video below to learn more. We’ve seen a 34% decrease in the number of remote access scams targeting NAB customers and a 40% reduction in losses associated with this scam type year-on-year. This trend has continued in recent months, with a further 13% reduction in the number of remote access scams and a 14% reduction in losses between October 2023 and March 2024 compared to the previous six months. These decreases are largely attributable to NAB’s use of BioCatch behavioural biometrics capabilities, which help monitor and prevent fraudulent activity by flagging customer behaviour that appears out of character, enabling NAB to better intercept and prevent potential fraud and scams in real time.

Westpac is partnerning with NextGen to use CDR in home loan applications. Just spotted this from two days ago. This is a big deal. CDR use in this way will allow home loan application data to be easily populated and should simplify and streamline the application process. CDR usage has, until recently, failed to deliver many of the promises of Open Banking but improvements to data quality and other recent developments, this being probably the most notable, are changing that. It's a good time to be in technology!  The word technology appears no less than 101 times in the Westpac Annual Report - emphasising the critical link between good technical engineering and great business outcomes. I am immensely proud of my Mortgage Technology team who continue to run world class technology services and enable great business outcomes through their technology delivery. In 24 months, we have halved the time taken to decision an average home loan to an industry leading 4.8 days in our broker channel. The result is a 41 point increase in Broker NPS! These solid results are underpinned by a suite of automations and integrations the technology team has delivered throughout the year. We're piloting new AI tech to streamline home loan assessments to further enable great customer outcomes and drive efficiency in our value chain. This year we also enabled the Sustainable Upgrades home and investor loans with support of the Clean Energy Finance Corporation.  Our digital mortgage continues to build momentum with over $4B settled to date and we have a clear plan to accelerate our technology simplification through UNITE. Please read my piece on Forbes magazine. I feel honoured that I was given the opportunity to share publicly my opinion on Australia’s technology for the banking & financial services industry. Here are the highlights: ○ I advocate for Australian technology and Australian tech firms, strongly believing that the country can again become the global leader in technological innovation by investing in, nurturing, and retaining homegrown talent. I emphasise the importance of graduates from domestic universities and creating a thriving tech industry that keeps tech jobs in Australia, offers job opportunities to grads and makes it rewarding for them to stay and work here in Australia. ○ Technological advancements and challenges are reshaping Australia’s financial sector, but stronger focus is needed on enhancing customer experience and re-humanising solutions. Solutions need to improve human livelihood, not be designed for the benefit of institutions but for the benefit of the consumer. ○ Despite the potential benefits, the journey towards digital transformation in the financial sector is fraught with challenges. I discuss the high failure rate of technology projects, attributing it to factors such as lack of executive sponsorship, resiliency, capability to see through implementation, fluid strategies, and other inherent risks of large-scale transformations. ○ I advocate for modernising management consulting and restoring market trust through innovative, forward-focused, thoughtful, and ethical practices. We need craft tailored solutions to improve online usability and personalise customer experiences, aiming to move beyond transactional relationships to more meaningful interactions with our clients. ○ I discuss how organisations need to understand and engage with their customers, with an emphasis on the customer rather than themselves. Aiming to bridge the gap in utilising customer information responsibly to meet customers’ changing needs and preferences, similar to tech giants like Apple and Amazon. The primary focus must be on customer satisfaction, which naturally will lead to growth in profitability and shareholder returns. ○ At Liberty we aim to change the stigma of the term ‘consulting’ and rebuild trust in the industry by reminding that Australian firms, small or large are second to none (international conglomerates) and consulting can be done differently, by placing customer success ahead of our own objectives, being a trusted and ethical partner. #australiantech #bankingandfinance #technology
