I have completed a dissertation titled, “Data Protection Law: The Need for Globalized Protection”. I have argued that, although the vast majority of countries have their own data protection laws, they are inadequately providing the necessary protection of personal data on a globalized scale. I particularly focused on the relationship between Europe and the United States, examining the Safe Harbour Principles that are applied for the transfer of data between the EEA and the US. I am also looking at how technology regarding data transfer has developed over the past number of years, yet how our laws have failed to keep with the advancement. I intend to examine some recent European and international law suits which have dealt with such issues, and analyze how their outcomes have affected international law.
