Cloud spending in Australia is set to increase by 19.7% to $23.3 billion in 2024, according to Gartner. The forecast also highlights the challenge organisations face in managing consumption-based cloud pricing. Wasabi Technologies recently published the 2024 Cloud Storage Index which included some 100 CXOs across Australia. Two of the key findings was 48% of all companies said they spend more on fees than the actual capacity to store their data and 51% said they exceeded the budget spend on cloud storage as a result of the fees. Google Cloud has accidentally deleted a major customer’s account, including all its backups. The affected customer, UniSuper, is an Australian pension fund that manages $135 billion worth of funds and has 647,000 members. The incident occurred on May 2 and the full restoration of services did not happen until May 15. The deletion was caused by an inadvertent misconfiguration during the provisioning of UniSuper’s Private Cloud services. 🌟 Exciting Update! 🌟   We're delighted to share the results of the Australian Government's Microsoft 365 Copilot trial that ran earlier this year between January and June. The trial by the Australian Public Service (APS) involved 7,600 users across more than 60 agencies and was one of the first deployments of Copilot within the public sector globally.    Key Highlights include: ✅ 86% of trial participants wished to continue to use Copilot (including 92% of senior executives) ✅ 77% were optimistic about Copilot  ✅ Participants saved up to an hour a day, using this time for higher-value activities like mentoring, strategic planning, and stakeholder engagement. The trial also emphasised the importance of tailored training and change management to maximise the benefits of generative AI, with 75% of participants who received three or more forms of training feeling the most confident in using Copilot. This is no surprise and when speaking with customers, is often the number one factor to successful adoption.    The trial also paves the way for Australia's technology sector to engage with local providers, partners, and other major tech players to fully realise the potential of generative AI.
