Interesting Google snafu in this article. If I read between the lines: "Google automates many of their processes for the operations of Google Cloud. Many of those automations are powered by some kind of intelligence (translate also, AI). Their network of automations made a decision and acted without any human intervention, and the account was deleted." I could be wrong, but it seems highly likely. At #AutoCon2, Karl Newell from Internet2 closed the lightning talks (and all the conference talks) with an overview of a major network project they undertook. The project? A full network upgrade in the summer of 2022. That upgrade was a jumping off point for much more, though. The need for network automation. Doubling their device count. Changing vendors, which drove a need for a device config migration. Cleaning up configurations and standardizing them. Karl also highlighted several big lessons they learned along the way, including… 1️⃣ The crucial need for organizational support. Management needs to spend money and dedicate people. I2 used Cisco NSO, and it took them 18 months to get the models all built. Engineering needed to support the changes as well, which required earning trust and working with them to design how the system would work. Engineers really liked the end result, ultimately using NSO for far more than originally planned. 2️⃣ The value of iterative development. Karl described their network automation workflow development process as discover, define, design, develop, test, then refine, refine, refine, refine. Now start again. 3️⃣ Integrated, not siloed, teams. Karl said this is a point he could talk about for a long time. He started by explaining the “chuck it over the wall” problem most of us are all too familiar with where there’s a wall between development and operations. In I2's case, they broke that wall down, working hand in hand with developers and engineering to bring their system to life. They still function this way, even though their automation system is somewhat mature now. Karl says to use a project like this to bring teams together. The higher proportion of smaller size businesses in Australia means far fewer organisations have internal IT resources. These organisations need to stay agile, are always changing, and need their technology to support their lean teams as much as possible, instead of being a burden to manage. This creates the opportunity for Australian partners to meet that need. Partners who are ahead of the game are going all in and building wireless practices within their business or pivoting entirely to become a ‘wireless service provider’ for their customers. Similarly, Fixed Wireless Access is being offered by carriers to SMBs and the uptake of that is growing at a rapid rate.

Expenditures on various NDIS ICT initiatives, CRM systems & other technology investments #NDIS ICT Spending Breakdown 1. Scrapped Project - Cost: Approximately $150 million - An initial ICT system aimed to support the NDIS but was ultimately scrapped due to #scalability & functionality issues. 2. Nadia Project - Cost: $4.5 million - 'Nadia' was an AI-powered virtual assistant designed to help NDIS participants, which was eventually shelved after significant investment. 3. Pace Project - Cost: $87 million - The 'Pace' system, based on Salesforce technology, was intended to replace existing business systems, making the process more user-friendly & efficient for NDIA staff & partners. This project includes various updates and improvements to system interfaces & functionality. 4. DART Program - Cost: $160 million (over four years) - Details: The Data and Regulatory Transformation (DART) Program aims to enhance the technology systems for the NDIS Quality and #Safeguards Commission, focusing on data collection, analysis, and safeguarding measures. 5. CRM System - SAP CRM System: - Previous SAP CRM system, hosted by Services Australia, was deemed outdated & inefficient, contributing to poor service delivery. This system is being replaced as part of the broader PACE initiative. - PACE CRM System - Cost: Integrated within the PACE and DART budgets - Details: PACE (Participant/Provider Alternative Cloud Environment) is the new system built on Salesforce CRM technology. It aims to streamline interactions between the NDIA, participants & service providers, enhancing efficiency & transparency. Total Known Expenditure - Scrapped Project: $150 million - Nadia Project: $4.5 million - Pace Project: $87 million - DART Program: $160 million - CRM System (part of PACE and DART): Costs integrated Total: $401.5 million (plus integrated CRM costs within PACE and DART programs) Ongoing Costs & Additional Investments 1. Ongoing Maintenance & Upgrades: - Expensive updates, & enhancements are standard for large-scale ICT systems. - Costs incl software updates, hardware maintenance, user support, and training, as well as continuous improvements to meet evolving user needs & regulatory requirements. 2. Additional Budget Allocations: - NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission: - Cost: $142.6 million over two years (separate from DART) - Recent Budget Measures: - Federal budget has allocated additional funding to various ICT-related initiatives for the NDIS, including further enhancements to IT infrastructure & fraud prevention systems. Total NDIS ICT initiatives amounts to over $401.5 million, with significant ongoing costs expected for maintenance, upgrades, & further developments. In a time of an increasing volume cyber-attacks, the Bureau of Meterology an Australian Government website still doesn't support HTTPS. 🔓 Sure most of the weather information is non-sensitive but is this acceptble for a government website in 2024? Dr. Zeina Morcos, co-author of the study, presented her findings at the #CHEST 2024 annual meeting in Boston. The study compared the abilities of two AI models, ChatGPT -3.5 and DoximityGPT, in diagnosing PE. It found that both models could successfully reach conclusions that aligned with clinicians’ assessments and diagnoses of PE made using CT angiography (CTA). DoximityGPT, in particular, showed high diagnostic accuracy, matching clinical diagnoses in 7 out of 10 cases. 🌟 Exciting Update! 🌟   We're delighted to share the results of the Australian Government's Microsoft 365 Copilot trial that ran earlier this year between January and June. The trial by the Australian Public Service (APS) involved 7,600 users across more than 60 agencies and was one of the first deployments of Copilot within the public sector globally.    Key Highlights include: ✅ 86% of trial participants wished to continue to use Copilot (including 92% of senior executives) ✅ 77% were optimistic about Copilot  ✅ Participants saved up to an hour a day, using this time for higher-value activities like mentoring, strategic planning, and stakeholder engagement. The trial also emphasised the importance of tailored training and change management to maximise the benefits of generative AI, with 75% of participants who received three or more forms of training feeling the most confident in using Copilot. This is no surprise and when speaking with customers, is often the number one factor to successful adoption.    The trial also paves the way for Australia's technology sector to engage with local providers, partners, and other major tech players to fully realise the potential of generative AI.
