As heard in a recent CEO Peer Circle at the Sandbox Centre... When faced with tough decisions and tough conversations, leaders are called to step up -- and lead. Whether its a performance issue, an operational challenge or even a client problem, difficult situations don't resolve themselves. And will often get worse over time. Even if its just by lowering the standards of what you allow in your business and your life: What you permit, you promote. Heather Mason of Mason Miller Accounting & Advisory also commented that as owners and leaders, we need to lean in to problems (opportunities?) and trust our gut when making choices and decisions. That its important to stay the course. Not get distracted from our purpose. Some quick tips when facing a difficult decision or discussion: 🔶 Step back to reframe the situation - what is the big picture, the ultimate goal that needs to be protected? Are other people being affected? 🔶 Absent the people involved, what do you know is the right decision? 🔶 Now, consider the people involved. What is their situation? 🔶 Is there a win-win, the "3rd option" that everyone can agree with? 🔶 What's the worse potential outcome? And how can you mitigate it? 🔶 Its about the problem, not the person. Be objective, yet empathetic. And remember, once dealt with, the problem is no longer hanging over you. Is your business, conscience, conscious or maybe neither? Jill Taylor's articles are thought proving and great for the possibility in, and for, business. In this article, I love how she goes deeply into the use of the word 'conscious' to describe what are essentially conscientious businesses.
