Women's Agenda claims to amplify voices that matter to women and to address issues affecting them. Editor Madeline Hislop highlighted a campaign by Antoinette Lattouf, lawyer Ramia Abdo Sultan, Sara Schwartz from the farcical Jewish Council of Australia that represents less that 600 Jews and is in cahoots with APAN, and musician and disability advocate Eliza Hull, urging the Australian government to sanction Israel amid the ongoing Middle Eastern conflict. Yet, where have they spotlighted the voices of Jewish women? Jewish women in Australia who are traumatised by the events of October 7? Those with family and friends who were subjected to unimaginable atrocities, silenced in discussions by those who selectively champion women's rights. Our women—who have faced brutalities including gang rape, beheadings, and abduction for 12 months, are notably absent from the narrative Women's Agenda chooses to highlight. Furthermore, by turning off comments on Instagram, Women's Agenda has chosen not to engage with or address voices raising concerns about this bias, shutting down conversation and reinforcing a one-sided perspective. By giving voice to only one side of this complex issue, Women’s Agenda reveals a troubling bias. Genuine feminism stands against all forms of violence and upholds the dignity of every woman. TLDR: Dear fashion brands, stop overthinking repair! The Ellen MacArthur Foundation Foundation newest demonstration project is The Fashion ReModel. The project, shaped in consultation with 150+ organisations, aims to identify solutions to scaling circular business models. Yesterday, they convened participants for the first time and I was privileged to speak on their care/repair/alterations panel with SOJO, United Repair Centre, and ACS (Advanced Clothing Solutions). Key concerns: Scalability, profitability and quality control Key takeaways: 💰 Repair is the best customer strategy boost ever **The emotional "it" factor with owned products is much higher than with new. **Leverage this to build relationships, get better data, drive retention, take wallet share, and/or lower acquisition costs. **Pick the metric you are trying to drive first, design an offering to optimise it, and then move on to the next one. **Brands that own the customer and the data will be able to make the most of this.  📈 Scalability = good foundations + system design. **Brands are adept at working with long and disaggregated supply chains; They should leverage this method of well-documented standards and SLAs with local repair partners. **Like buying manufacturing capacity, brands must commit to their partners. **Revenue visibility will enable them to scale talent and ensure capacity to meet the SLA.   **Too often, brands get excited about an initial activation and pay little attention to it afterwards. Uptake becomes sporadic, and everyone is disappointed. **It must be infused long-term, not treated as a campaign stunt.  📄 Again, like manufacturing, most quality control is about communication and standards.   **The median of repair services is actually pretty basic stuff. **The customer wants to understand what work will be done, what outcome to expect, and when they will get it back. **Repairers also want to know what work is required and, if there is a specific way things need to be done, what that is. ⬇ The economics of repair: 40-60% of the repair cost is servicing the order Approx repair cost breakdown: **20% assessing and quoting **20% servicing the order (e.g. logistics, communicating with customers) **20% managing the repair work (e.g. managing staff, quality control, tracking orders) and **40% labour.    **We designed Circulo to remove as much non-labour cost as possible through a fully customisable and configurable automation system that codifies your standards and provides a seamless customer-facing experience across markets.  You don't have to be Patagonia to get the benefits. New Report from Impact Economics and Policy and Homelessness Australia - "Call Unanswered - Unmet demand for specialist homelessness services." Specialist Homelessness Services are stretched, and official figures are not capturing the full extent of unmet demand for help. An exclusive survey of 23 services conducted over a two-week period in September 2024 found that: • 39% of services were forced to close their doors to people seeking help at least once during the fortnight. • 83% of services were unable to answer phone calls for some period during the survey, leaving people in crisis without immediate assistance. • 74% cent of services were unable to reply to emails during the survey, impacting housing referrals and support requests. Services are struggling to provide emergency accommodation to families with children or unaccompanied young people. 💡New data on sexual violence has *massive gaps* in understanding & addressing sexual violence within LGBTQ+ communities. I want to address this. The report provides crucial data on the prevalence and patterns of sexual violence perpetration among a certain demographic and, it is a great start, HOWEVER... Although the report does include SOME data on sexual orientation, with 14.6% of respondents being LGB+, it falls short in areas that are critical in fully capturing the experiences and needs of LGBTQ+ people. The analysis does not break down data based on sexual orientation or gender identity, which means specific patterns of perpetration within LGBTQ+ sub-groups remain unexplored. Our communities are not homogenous. Second, the language and frameworks used in the survey may not fully capture the nuances of sexual violence in LGBTQ+ contexts. The report largely uses heteronormative frameworks, which can conceal the dynamics of violence experienced by queer and gender-diverse people. Additionally, the survey's focus on "men" vs "women" without sufficient inclusion of non-binary or gender-diverse respondents underrepresents their experiences. Of course, this may be due to limitations of the study such as too small of a sample size (around 5,000 people) which means without these insights it's impossible to tailor services. To better include LGBTQ+ individuals and understand sexual violence within these communities, research should: 1. Collect and analyse data separately for different LGBTQ+ subgroups to identify specific patterns and risk factors. 2. Increase sample sizes as the number of LGBTQ+ participants in the study may have been too small to draw meaningful conclusions or identify specific patterns within this group. Plus, small numbers can lead to identification. 3. Incorporate inclusive language and frameworks that reflect the diversity of sexual orientations and gender identities, ensuring that questions are relevant and comprehensible to LGBTQ+ respondents. Further, not conflating sex and gender which in turn means no way to identify trans people. 4. Consider the intersectionality of identities (race, disability, socioeconomic status etc) to understand how overlapping forms of discrimination and disadvantage impact experiences of sexual violence. Further, LGBTQ+ respondents, especially those from multiple marginalised backgrounds, often feel uncomfortable disclosing their experiences of sexual violence due to fear of stigma/discrimination. And, due to a lack of awareness in our communities, some may not know they've experienced sexual violence. We need increased funding for larger and more inclusive sample sizes, community engagement, intersectional approaches, and better training for researchers to improve the quality and accuracy of research on sexual violence within LGBTQ+ communities. Accurate statistics are essential to develop effective interventions & policies to tackle this important issue in our communities.

In my 15 years of working in #IndigenousPhilanthropy, I have observed consistencies that keep us aligned and prevent us from moving forward. Delving into Indigenous Philanthropy for over a decade and a half has revealed ten enduring truths, but the subtle barriers obstructing our progress demand attention. 1. ✅ Indigenous-led organizations and communities have the most effective and efficient answers to serve their communities best.  2. ✅ Those who provide financial resources (aka grantors) want to be respectful partners. 3. 🤩 There are many more Indigenous-led organizations and communities than you know working in areas that align with as many grantmakers' visions and missions. 4. 🛑 Structure and language hold our sector from reaching our collective goals (ex, grantor, grantee). 5. 🤝 Over the years, Indigenous Philanthropic Knowledge Holders (my term for Indigenous Peoples in our sector) have created and openly shared toolkits, webinars, books, and workbooks that provide a pathway to working with Indigenous organizations' brilliance and ingenuity. 6. ☑ Western philanthropy is leaning toward trust-based, participatory grant-making and other approaches to varying degrees of success. 7. 🏚 "If you build it, they will come" is a philanthropic aspiration; however, more inroads of how to find one another is needed.  8. ⬆ Education to support Indigenous-led organizations and communities about the philanthropic landscape is increasing and should be invested in. 9. 💬 Grantors care while simultaneously not wanting to get things wrong or wanting to get it right; holds our collective potential back.  10. 💫 We have the will and charitable laws to increase resources and partnerships respectfully to achieve the change we all work toward. We are all human. As someone who focuses on interactions to achieve our goals, I know that subtle #barriers begin with human-made #obstacles that can be #overcome. Hi folks and welcome to my Friday Reflection   In the spirit of activating the weeks between National Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week, my Friday Reflections will continue to draw attention to our relationships together on this land.   The first thing I will do is attempt to mash together the themes. "Now More Than Ever" (NRW) we need to "Keep The Fire Burning!" (NAIDOC)   Now more than ever we need to keep the fire burning by keeping attention on our relationships, our challenges, our opportunities, and our hopes for the future.   Now more than ever we need to keep the fire burning because while some of us have been able to make the most of our current situation in terms of wealth, health, success, and opportunity, there are many others who are struggling and suffering.   Now more than ever we need to keep the fire burning because we need to address our challenges together. Some of the work can only be done by First Nations, some can be done by allies, some by those who hold formal power, and some of the work is done by ordinary people in everyday actions.   In leadership development we talk about the importance of individual discipline in little things makes a difference in our collective behaviour. We see this in many things impacting our society. And we see this in our national narrative about our relationships as the oldest continuous living cultures on earth and every living culture on earth here together in Australia.   To keep the fire burning, now more than ever we should pay attention to our little actions. Our little actions help to make our habits and shape how we relate to the world around us. Our little actions confirm our beliefs and affirm our attitudes.   I encourage and challenge you to take stock of your little actions that confirm your beliefs and affirm your attitudes about our relationships together in Australia. Are we digging in deeper or doubling down on beliefs and attitudes that keep us apart? Or are we practicing habits to remain open, flexible, curious, and bold in our beliefs and attitudes with each other.   Today I am honoured to be part of a gathering called "Black Bold Brothers: Let's Be the Change Changing the Narrative Together". It is gathering about reclaiming our pride and sharing stories of resilience and hope to inspire each other and the community that we can be the change we want to see in the world as Black Bold Brothers. In the gathering today we will be talking about our little actions we can take to change our beliefs and improve our attitudes to become more powerful forces for positive change.   Now more than ever to keep the fire burning, I encourage you to think about your little actions. Take stock of your actions, take heart that your actions matter, and take hope that many others like you are seeking to make positive change in the world.   Be encouraged and encourage others.
