Coomera Connector Stage 1 (Coomera to Nernag)
Coomera Connector Stage 1 will relieve pressure on the M1 by providing an alternative route for local traffic and additional crossings of the Coomera and Nerang rivers. It will provide improved connections and accessibility to more transport options on the northern Gold Coast, improve and provide more reliable travel times between Brisbane and the Gold Coast by reducing the number of local trips on the M1 and increase safety on the M1 by reducing congestion and potential queuing at…

Embedded within the TMR team, I'm providing high level technical advice throughout the design and construction process. My role builds confidence that project outcomes, value for money and best practice are achieved on the project. -
Beerburrum 2 Nambour (B2N) Proof of Concept
-
Together with Queensland Rail’s commitment to implement BIM on projects greater than $50M in value, B2N was seen as an opportunity to further develop QR’s BIM requirements.
My understanding of the Early Contractor Involvement procurement model informed the development and subsequent investigations into options that increased the efficiency of QR’s design review processes with access to a federated model. -
M1 Pacific Motorway Upgrade South (Varsity Lakes to Tugun)
-
The upgrade between Varsity Lakes / Reedy Creek (Exit 85) and Tugun (Exit 95) will provide additional capacity to meet traffic demands, reduce the duration of congestion and improve travel time reliability. Interchange enhancements will improve access on and off the motorway and minimise the potential for traffic crashes on this section of the motorway.

Design Manager for the preliminary and detailed design phases. James managed a design team of 30 staff and coordinated the development of several complex design solutions within an urbanised and constrained road corridor. Building upon the delivery efficiencies implemented during the design phase of Stage 1, he successfully implemented lean construction principles including Last Planner. This approach identified many benefits that eliminated waste and focused the team on what was of value to TMR. Design documentation is currently being finalised and is on track to be completed by October 2019, enabling TMR to commence a two-stage procurement model in August 2019. -
M1/M3/Gateway Motorway Merge Upgrade
-
Having been successful in the tender, this project upgraded the M1/M3/Gateway Motorway merge at Eight Mile Plains. The project included widening of the southbound carriageway to provide additional traffic capacity, replaced the existing Underwood Road Bridge over the M1 and implemented Lane Use Management Systems extending from Klumpp Road to Rochedale Road. It was the first stage of TMR's Master Plan for the M1 road corridor.

It was the first stage of TMR's Master Plan for the M1 road corridor.
As assistant Design Manager I closely liaised with the Lendlease construction team and coordinated a multi-discipline design team to develop robust design solutions throughout tender and delivery. The project was delivered under a Collaborative Project Agreement and as such I presented design progress to TMR on a weekly basis. -
West Gate Tunnel Project
-
The West Gate Tunnel Project will change the way people move around Melbourne and how trucks get to the port. It will deliver a vital alternative to the West Gate Bridge, providing a much needed second river crossing, quicker and safer journeys, and remove thousands of trucks from residential streets.

Gateway Upgrade North project — Nudgee to Bracken Ridge
-
The GUN project aimed to reduce congestion, accommodate future growth and improve motorists’ safety by widening the existing formation from four to six lanes between Nudgee and Bracken Ridge, widening road shoulders, extending on and off ramps, installing new safety barriers, separating local traffic from motorway traffic, installing intelligent transport systems and improving the motorway alignment and signage.

My role included design coordination between multiple disciplines including road geometry, storm water drainage, structures, PUP, Geotech and TTM. My primary focus was the delivery of the road alignment, road furniture and signs and delineation packages for the northern area from Bicentennial Road, Boondall to Bracken Ridge. -
Pacific Motorway (M1) upgrade: Gateway to Logan Motorway
-
This project developed a Route Strategy to upgrade the M1 Pacific Motorway between Loganlea Road to Logan River with a design horizon of 2031 and will replace the current corridor Master Plan. The study also identified an investment prioritisation strategy to implement the Route Strategy over several stages.

The study also identified an investment prioritisation strategy to implement the Route Strategy over several stages.
I was responsible for the development and coordination of Route Options in conjunction with an adjacent study along the M1 road corridor and an overarching traffic modelling commission. The Route Strategy phase identified a preferred layout that accommodated 2031 traffic demands with provision for public transport and freight priority.
As project manager in the Staging and Investment Prioritisation Phase, I advocated for continued collaboration with the consultancies responsible for the adjacent M1 study and traffic modelling. The result was a robust route strategy and link plans with a staging approach that was compatible with the adjacent study, providing TMR a clear approach for future M1 development in this area.
