Do you feel like you can stand up for yourself? Q. Can you speak up to defend others? Here are a few ways that I'm suggesting that you might check your boundaries. 1. How does your body feel in the moment? Hot? Clenched stomach? Are you making a fist? How is your breath? Give yourself a moment to feel into it and try to get clear on what has made you feel uncomfortable? Take a few slow breaths, let your system get regulated again. Take your time, you don't have to respond in the moment. 2. Before you say yes to someone else are you saying no to yourself at the same time? Take the time to check in and see if this way of spending your time or energy is really aligned to your path, your goals? 3. Communicate with clarity. Keep it brief, when you are making it clear to people. Generally use fewer words. 4. Get comfortable feeling uncomfortable. Growth is uncomfortable, honest self expression can be excruciating. 5. Be prepared for pushback. Not everyone is going to like you setting your boundaries and saying "no" and that's ok. The more brightly you shine your light for other people, the more you show the way of kindly setting boundaries and clearly communicating your needs, you are demonstrating that for other people. #boundaries #voicecoaching #publicspeaking #vocalcoach

Estrangement is a blurred topic, in my opinion. It’s a word thrown around without much realisation of the real impacts it has on people. Estrangement refers to the intentional or unintentional severance of previously close relationships, often between family members or friends. This disconnection can arise for many different reasons such as conflicts, misunderstandings, betrayal, or differing values and lifestyles. It’s not something that is short lived, estrangement is typically marked by prolonged periods of little to no contact. The experience of estrangement is closely related to grief, as both lead to a real sense of loss. Just as with mourning the death of a loved one, you grieve the loss of connection, shared history, and future possibilities with the person from whom you are estranged. This grief can be complicated by feelings of rejection, abandonment, and unresolved anger or guilt and unlike bereavement, where society often provides support and understanding, estrangement can lead to a more isolating and disenfranchised form of grief, where the emotional pain is not always recognised. It’s not just simple, it is complex and can lead to your whole life changing. I hope this has helped to explain what estrangement is, but I’d love to hear what you think. Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You. DR SEUSS All of us have a strong desire to be loved and accepted for who we are. Conversely, we often look at others and think, “if I had some of their qualities I would be happier, more successful, more appreciated, more seen, more loved, etc.” It’s good to use others as role models and adopt qualities you admire in them, however, don’t try to be them. It’s important that when you adopt those qualities you make them your own. The crucial thing to know is that who you are is genuinely unique, that you bring a dynamic to the world that no one else can bring and that the distressing or challenging situations you face can be about strengthening that person who is you. Do you embrace who you are, or do you listen only to your negative self-talk, basing your assessment of self on those thoughts and the seeming judgement of others?

🧘‍♂️ Meditation can lead to altered states of consciousness and feelings of bliss🧘‍♀️ Australian research has found that meditation programs could lead to altered states of consciousness up to a year later, including feeling that everything is connected, and feeling detached from your body. Feelings of BLISS were also experienced by those who participated in the study If we experience pain in our body, and we have the ability to detach from our body, this would give relief from pain. No big surprise, and the fast track to loneliness. 👤 Consider this: everyone has a different brain, schema, motivation, and locus of control. Therefore, the way you think and do things is not the only way to the truth. Try to gain more days where you can understand metacognition in why and how others think the way they do. Are you a good listener? If that’s hard to answer you’re not 😂 Listening well essentially means being able to shut up and letting the person talk. It means not interrupting and giving them space to say what is on their mind. Coupled with that is requires you to show affirmative behaviour. This may be “uh hmms” or other confirmatory language. You need to give your undivided attention. It also means looking at the person and minimising distractions. For example, put your devices away or do not disturb. You need to be able to show consistency in your ability to listen and take in the information. This also means, checking for understanding, clarifying and summarising information. This all should be done from a stance of empathy. Once you can tackle this, then, if warranted, give your two pence! What other advice would you give when it comes to listening? What song are you singing? 🎶 I recently connected with an Australian Actor. He is charismatic, confident and light-hearted, and the song he sings exudes that same sense of self assurance. I’m not talking about an actual song here - but rather the energy he exudes; the song I felt his soul  singing in that moment. As our conversation progressed, I asked him a deep question - and when he answered with vulnerability, the song he sang began to change. His voice softened and his speech slowed right down, the notes changed, and in the long pauses between words, I could feel his heart. Asking the right questions can be like putting quarters into a jukebox and requesting a different song. As a coach, you have the power to invite your client to sing a different song through the presence you hold and the questions you ask;  allowing them to access a part of themselves that perhaps was not even known to them.
