Metals Australia Ltd has released its Quarterly Activities Report for the quarter ended 31 March 2024.   Highlights include: ◾ Commencement of highly experienced Mining Executive, Paul Ferguson, as Chief Executive Officer. This has enabled the Company to significantly advance planning and preparation for the exploration, metallurgical test work programs and design studies required to move its flagship Lac Rainy high-grade #graphite project towards development. ◾ The company hosted an investor booth at Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC). The convention was hugely successful with significant contacts and connections established, who have expressed their interest in our project. Connections include government representatives, fund managers, investors and a wide range of technical services and engineering companies covering all aspects of the study programs required to advance the companies projects. This helped raise the profile of the Lac Rainy project, along with our other Quebec based projects. Follow up meetings with the government and supportive, Quebec based, exploration and project investment funds has further enhanced our profile in Canada. ◾ The Company held strategic planning workshops in Australia and Canada to review the extensive portfolio of high-quality exploration tenements held by the group. LANTHANEIN RESOURCES LIMITED (ASX:LNR, OTC:FRNRF) will accelerate work programs at the Lady Grey #lithium, #gold, #copper and #nickel project in Western Australia after raising A$2.2 million, before costs, in a placement. Firm commitments have been received from sophisticated investors for the placement and the company will issue 488 million shares at 0.45 cents per share. Funds raised will be used primarily to fund exploration, including drilling at the Lady Grey Project in a #criticalminerals hotspot. Lanthanein technical director Brian Thomas said: “The identification of multiple new gold, copper and nickel anomalies picked up by the recent tenement-wide soil sampling program adds another dimension to the project-wide prospectivity of Lady Grey following the discovery of two large lithium anomalies, Godzilla and Avenger in the soil program." We’ve signed a 10-year agreement with Tronox to design and deliver a new 26MW hybrid power system for its Atlas-Campaspe mine in New South Wales. The hybrid system will include an 11MW #solar farm and 6MWh BESS that will provide up to 40% renewable energy to the mine’s power supply, reducing Tronox’s annual carbon emissions by approximately 13,000 tonnes and its diesel usage by nearly five million litres per year. The Tronox power system will be our first in NSW, marking a significant milestone in our east coast growth strategy and bringing us one step closer to becoming the preferred partner for decarbonising power supplies across the country. The emerging pattern of Australia digging up the critical minerals while others finance the construction of value adding processing in their own markets is repeating itself in battery material manganese, with Element 25 securing lucrative US government support, writes Peter Roberts. Element 25 Limited, which is developing the Butcherbird manganese deposit in Western Australia’s Pilbara, has been selected to negotiate for a US$166 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) under the Battery Materials Processing Grant Program. IGO Ltd reaffirmed current lithium production guidance 📌 On 27 October, IGO Ltd reported robust lithium production at the Greenbushes mine and Kwinana refinery in 🇦🇺 Australia. In the September quarter, #Greenbushes achieved a 22% increase in spodumene production, reaching 406,000 tonnes, driven by higher throughput and improved feed grade. Sales volume fell by 26% quarter-on-quarter to 392,000 tonnes. The average realised price for spodumene concentrate was US$872 per tonne (FOB 🇦🇺 Australia) while cash costs decreased to A$277 per tonne, an 18% reduction. 🏷️ At Kwinana, lithium hydroxide production rose by 13% to 1,502 tonnes as operational efficiencies improved. A major planned shutdown in October is expected to lift production rates from December 2024 onward. 🔋 Greenbushes has set its production guidance at 1.35-1.55 million tonnes for FY2025. The CEO Ivan Vella affirmed current production guidance, citing stable project performance with no plans to adjust forecasts. CSIRO warns Australia must act on “unique window of opportunity” to set up a globally competitive hydrogen electrolyser industry. Hysata welcomes the CSIRO’s new report which states that “Hydrogen Electrolyser Manufacturing presents a unique manufacturing opportunity for the nation.” The report says this once in a generation opportunity has come about because: - The global electrolyser industry is in its infancy but has a rapid growth path, - Australia has a strong starting position because of innovations like Hysata’s high efficiency alkaline electrolysers, and - The domestic pipeline of electrolyser customers is second only to India. The Queensland government rejected a proposal by Glencore’s subsidiary, CTSCo, to store carbon in the Great Artesian Basin (GAB).  Glencore’s subsidiary, CTSCo, proposed a carbon capture and storage (CCS) project that involved injecting and storing 330,000 tonnes of food-grade CO2 from a coal-fired power station into a deep aquifer of the basin.  The plan was for a three-year trial during which up to 110,000 tonnes of CO2 per year would have been injected into the Precipice Sandstone aquifer near Moonie, west of Brisbane.   The Department of Environment, Science and Innovation decided not to approve the project due to potential impacts on groundwater in the Great Artesian Basin. The plan was strongly opposed by agriculture and environmental groups due to concerns about contamination and the impact on water pressure across the basin. The department's assessment found that CO2 injected into the aquifer could migrate, likely causing irreversible or long-term change to groundwater quality and environmental values if the project were to proceed.  This includes potential increased concentrations of contaminants including chloride, sulphate, salinity, various metals, and metalloids, including lead and arsenic. The decision made it clear that other carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects would not be viable for the region.  Glencore expressed disappointment with the decision.  The Queensland Farmers’ Federation has emphasised the need for Queensland to take a leading role in protecting the basin.   The GAB is one of the largest underground freshwater reservoirs in the world.  It stretches from Cape York in Queensland to Dubbo in New South Wales, west to Coober Pedy in South Australia, and into the Northern Territory.  It is estimated to contain about 65 million gigalitres of underground water — enough to fill Sydney Harbour 130,000 times.  The basin supplies water to 180,000 people and 7,600 businesses across Australia.   Glencore expressed disappointment with the decision.  They stated that the project was based on robust scientific fieldwork, data, and analysis, and had been reviewed by third-party experts.  However, rural lobby groups and farmers ramped up their opposition to the project, describing it as pure stupidity, and expressing fears that injecting any substance into the basin could contaminate the water supply and impact water pressure across the basin.
