⭐ Big News! ⭐ The Australian Telco Industry is leading a charge to tackle Australia's domestic and family violence crisis with the unified launch of action plan reports by six major telcos. ✨ Telcos including Optus, TPG Telecom, Telstra, Aussie Broadband, Vocus Group, and More have stepped up to support customers and employees facing domestic violence. With statistics showing that 1 in 4 women and 1 in 14 men have experienced physical or sexual violence from an intimate partner since the age of 15*, these telcos have taken action, more are following suit. 🤝 These DFV Action Plan Reports, submitted to Telco Together Foundation over the past three months are the final step organisations need to undertake when producing their DFV Action Plans. New Zealand's big bet on fibre has paid off in spades, according to a new report by Deloitte that found the $5.5 billion that government and private companies invested into the super fast internet infrastructure has delivered $31b in value due to productivity gains. Two economists from Deloitte Access Economics, Liza Van der Merwe and Mayuresh Prasad, walk us through the findings from that report, and what the future may hold for fibre in NZ. More than 800,000 premises in Queensland now have access to a full fibre upgrade, which offers a faster and more reliable nbn® Australia #service. On 28 October, Australia’s 3G networks commenced being shut down to boost the capacity, speed and reliability of 4G and 5G networks. If you have devices which relied on the 3G network, they will stop working. Your network provider will advise if your device is impacted. If you need to dispose of a device that no longer works, you can: ♻️ Drop it off for free at a resource management centre at Mitchell or Mugga Lane. 📱 Recycle old mobile phones, smart watches and related accessories that are no longer usable at a business program that may reuse or recycle it such as Officeworks Bring IT Back, Apple GiveBack, or Mobile Muster. 📶 Return mobile devices to your mobile service provider for recycling. These devices should not be disposed of in household bins as they often contain embedded batteries which can cause fires in collection trucks and facilities, and harm the environment. As major telcos prepare to shut off the nation’s 3G network, a new report reveals nearly 52,000 complaints about telco services have been lodged by Australians living in regional, rural or remote areas between July 1, 2021 and June 30 this year. Ongoing issues reported to the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman (TIO) include patchy mobile network coverage, service faults as well as outages, reports SmartCompany. The TIO reports reveals faults and service problems can take longer to be resolved in non-metro locations and, in some cases, “a regional customer may report faults over several years without any lasting improvements to their services”. Those customers often have to rely on landline or satellite communication, which has safety implications in the midst of major climate events such as bushfires and floods. The report comes as Australia’s major telcos, Optus and Telstra, moved to delay the shutdown of their 3G networks from the end of August to the end of October over concerns about public safety.
