🎙 PSA announcement regarding pop ups… Can you please wait for your page to fully load before serving customers a pop up. When you click an Instagram ad for most fashion brands in Australia you are served a pop up to collect your email before the page has even fully loaded! ❓ As a new customer I am not sure I like your brand yet, can you give me a few seconds please before with frustration I have to find the tiny x to continue browsing. 💸 I know email is so important for cart abandonment and retention but you are leaving money on the table if you serve the pop up before the page has even properly loaded. Had the pop up been served once I had browsed the page I would have been more willing to share my details. However, since I closed it immediately, I am not going to scroll down to the bottom of your site on my own accord to provide it to you. 🙏 TIA from your target customer. Does this grate on you too when shopping online?

The job market in the USA and Europe is all about it Web3, blockchain, AI and crypto. In NZ it feels like there is almost zero interest in this exploding market. Will NZ be left behind here? Why aren’t any companies here investing where the rest of the world is? Futureverse is one of the few companies based in NZ building in this space and they’re already a unicorn. But hardly anyone here knows they exist. This doesn’t bode well.

We cracked the algorithm for DISSH. They have grown 7X in the last 2 years. Here’s how we did it 👇 TL;DR 1. Channels 2. Locations 3. Creators 4. Diversification DISSH is a successful fashion brand in Australia that has been looking to go global. To take the bones of that success and turn it international we based their marketing around 5 things. 1. Channel Fashion trends start on TikTok, and bleed to Instagram. Any spend on other channels would have brought marginal results at best. We went to where fashion is, and we doubled down there. 2. Locations When starting the US entry we wanted a ripple effect. We wanted our ads to start trends that would move to the rest of the country. So we focused on the cities that lead the country in fashion: NY, LA, MIA. It would have been easier to make a splash in smaller, more central cities. But the splash wouldn’t have rippled to the more fashion-centered cities. We started at the top. 3. Creators Getting US creators to post with DISSH’s hashtags was essential. The right partnerships were key. And now #DisshHaul has 19.5 million views and #DisshTryOn has six million. The right creators make all the difference. 4. Diversification Paid media is the backbone of the expansion. But it can’t be the only thing. PR, media, influencer, and in-person activations were critical. This helps create a broader brand identity that will provide staying power. DISSH is an incredible brand that is going to take the US by storm. We are grateful to keep playing our part in their growth!

CNN reported that extreme weather events could affect four of the world’s top garment-producing countries, putting over $65 billion in apparel exports at risk by 2030. The environmental toll of fashion - which is responsible for 10% of total greenhouse gas emissions (European Environment Agency) - is also prompting a shift in consumer attitudes. Consumers are becoming more eco-conscious, driving demand for sustainable options and eco-friendly practices by both small and name brands. Australia isn't short of fashion talent, yet we’ve unfortunately seen too many iconic brands exit the market, driven by a combination of economic pressures and a lack of adaptation to evolving consumer needs. Customers' wants are shifting faster than ever, brand loyalty is increasingly harder to sustain and yet in many cases, brands aren't keeping up. Retailers must continue to innovate and evolve to meet shifting customer expectations, both in store and online. In challenging times, the customer often holds the key to growth, but delivering what 'worked in the past' isn't cutting it. "Green bling!" aka greenwashing. 👆 Loved this way of talking about the topic. I had never considered wind turbines and solar panels have been placed in building projects as "green bling" even if they are ineffective from a renewable generation point of view. This makes me quite sad that this is happening. Thanks for the insights Jon Stinson. I really enjoyed the round table discussion facilitated by mustard to celebrate #earthday . New Zealand Fashion Week Announcement. Due to the economic downturn and pressures on consumer spending which has affected the Fashion industry and its supporters, New Zealand Fashion Week (NZFW) has made the strategic decision to transition the annual event to a biennial schedule and will move Fashion Week from August 2024 to the second half of 2025. We have been greatly heartened by the early commitment from a group of anchor designers and sponsors, in particular our naming rights partner Shark Beauty and Tātaki Auckland Unlimited, media partner NZME, Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, Millennium Hotels & Resorts, Westfield, Resene, Go Well and Ministry of Social Development. But the reality is that consumer confidence is at an all-time low and the fashion retail industry has been particularly affected by the reduced consumer spending. Although we had a strong cohort of committed designers, we didn’t have enough for a robust weeklong schedule to make the event viable this year. We have listened to the industry, and carefully considered and taken on board the feedback from designers around the country, who tell us they need dedicated time and space to focus on their core retail business. With such strong economic headwinds, it has become clear this year is a time for consolidation. A pause will also allow time for the Wynyard Quarter crossing bridge to be repaired, its continued closure presenting a significant challenge for public attendance and access to the Viaduct Events Centre. While we recognise the excitement there is around NZFW following its triumphant and successful return in 2023, demonstrating its resilience and popular appeal, transitioning to a long-term biennial programme reflects the mindful shift we see within Aotearoa’s fashion industry. Staging the event less frequently is a more strategic allocation of resources and enables the sector in achieving its sustainability goals, an important consideration for designers as well as our own values. We are confident that the revised schedule, delivered with the support of our partners, will work well for the industry and Auckland events calendar. The extended timeframe gives the participants more time to prepare and plan the financial support for presenting their brands and their collections so that we can continue to stage an impactful and innovative, world-class event that is a befitting showcase for our talented industry. This is one of my favourite ways to illustrate what goes into an online B2B order - and it makes people realise the complexities in getting in right! I’ve been on a mission recently to try and help visualise how B2B eCommerce compares to DTC and placing an order is perhaps the most complicated of all. Adding items to an order is almost the easy part. You then need to think about: ↳ Customisations - does the order need additional configurations adding (e.g. personalisation for clothing), is this on an order-level or line-item level ↳ Sales team - who is actually placing the order, is the end-customer or a sales team facilitating? ↳ Negotiation - is the customer expecting to make edits and/or wanting to get a better price (e.g. for buying in volume) ↳ Shipping - what are the shipping terms based on the size of the order (is it so large that it literally needs to be shipped in a container!) ↳ Purchase orders - does there need to be a PO approval/sign-off before the order can be released ↳ Payment terms - this in itself is a category of complexity on it’s own ↳ Order edits - how does the customer make edits, and when’s the cut-off point And there’s often even more than this to think about.
