Nine keeping costs tight with the media group expecting more falls in advertising spend in the current June quarter. In a presentation to the Macquarie annual conference, Nine said the current operating environment was "challenging". The metro FTA market fell by about 13% in the March quarter, marginally better than February guidance of a mid-teens percentage decline. Nine says a similar dip is expected in the June quarter. According to Bain & Company 2024 Gamer Survey, global market for video game revenue reached US$196 billion in 2023, more than the combined revenue from streaming video ($114 billion), streaming music ($38 billion), and global box-office receipts ($34 billion). In an economy where it's easier to place advertising dollars in areas where brands / agencies are 'comfortable' rather than effective, how about the opportunity to run a head-to-head comparison on impressions for those in media agencies in order to see how gaming stacks up against some of the other digital channels. According to Deloitte's 13th Media and Entertainment Consumer Insights report: Australians now spend the same time streaming services as they do on free-to-air television, signalling a shift in entertainment consumption habits. Media consumption is no longer confined to 'prime time,' with peaks throughout the day. Social media usage among young Australians has dropped, with overall weekly entertainment consumption down by 10%. Despite rising living costs, Australians maintain their digital subscriptions, showing resilience in the face of budget constraints. A new Australian study delves into the optimal budget split for TV advertising, focusing on the burgeoning streaming landscape and revealing game-changing insights! 'The Rule of 30' report developed by Samsung Ads APAC and Nielsen (and previewed at the Samsung Ads #BehindTheScreens event earlier this month) introduces the 'Rule of 30', suggesting that allocating 30% of the Total TV budget to ad-funded streaming can maximize reach and efficiency without increasing budgets. When tested, some of the key findings from this concept were: 📈 By following the 70/30 split (linear/streaming), advertisers can achieve greater impact among key demographics. ⏩ Brands targeting younger audiences under 40 can boost reach faster and more efficiently through ad-funded streaming, even on smaller budgets. 📺 Ad-funded streaming now provides comparable reach to linear TV among 25-54-year-olds for lower-budget campaigns, highlighting the evolving TV landscape. 💸 Despite the surge in streaming consumption, TV ad spend has been slow to adapt, representing a significant opportunity for advertisers to reallocate budgets.
