Sounds like an internal primary or secondary index 'skew' between different systems (or just a bug). Can happen when restoring records to a database in live use when changing a schema, as the precise order that sets the foreign key mappings used by the other system will not match... This might even be a stale cache somewhere.. Hence why you should always use synthetic keys when maintaining a relationship between two distinct databases, never use internal primary or secondary keys, just asking for trouble... #databreach #australia #databases #integrity

In recent years, vulnerable legacy enterprise networks have migrated to full cloud solutions to improve security, scalability, and functionality. However, this shift has often come at the cost of data sovereignty and data lifecycle ownership. I am confident that, eventually, we will need to consider a mix of data sovereignty solutions and offshore computer processing. A likely return to edge computing, which emphasises local data storage and enhanced protection, is on the horizon. I look forward to helping our customers diversify their computing storage and processing capabilities by shifting from cloud computing to edge computing. Let’s see how this plays out!

Standards are essential for digital identity, helping to build a more trustworthy and connected infrastructure. 🌐 On November 8, New Zealand introduced its Digital Identity Services Trust Framework—a significant step toward a safer, more reliable digital identity ecosystem. Currently, identity theft impacts approximately 133,000 New Zealanders annually, costing the economy around $209 million each year. This decentralized framework aims to enhance security while giving citizens greater control over their personal data. It also sets clear guidelines for service providers, requiring robust security measures and privacy protections, while ensuring interoperability with international systems.  Data localisation requires data to be stored and processed within a specific geographic location. The 2023 exposure draft Australian Digital ID Rules (Rules) previously required data in general to be processed and stored in Australia unless an exception applied. However, concerns were raised that data localisation would ‘impose significant operational and financial burdens’ and limit the ‘efficiency and scalability’ of the system. The localisation requirement has now been removed. Now that data localisation is unlikely to be featured in the final Rules, it is important for Australia to strengthen its data privacy laws to align itself with more mature data privacy schemes such as the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). A few weeks ago, I posted about the Medisecure e-script exchange, which faced a major data breach. Patient and clinician data are now available to buy on the dark web. The company sought a government bailout due to having zero revenue after losing its duopoly e-script contract in Australia. Today, Medisecure has gone into administration. This situation raises critical issues about data security accountability. With the company winding up, who is responsible for safeguarding the personal and clinical information of the many Australians who used Medisecure’s e-script service? This quandary prompts a broader question being asked loudly: Will data security become a governance requirement for Australian businesses? Where will the lines be drawn? Manufacturers and suppliers will need to ensure that devices meet specific security standards before hitting the shelves. 2.      Ransomware Reporting: Certain businesses will be required to report ransomware payments to help authorities better understand the threat landscape. 3.      Enhanced Information Sharing: The Act facilitates faster and more open sharing of information between the National Cyber Security Coordinator (#NCSC), the Australian Signals Directorate (#ASD), and relevant entities during cyber incidents. 4.      Cyber Incident Review Board (#CIRB): This independent body will conduct no-fault post-incident reviews of significant cyber incidents to identify lessons and improve future response.
