Leonardo da Vinci's bridge design utilized a self-supporting, parabolic arch structure that effectively distributed compressive forces along the entire span, eliminating the need for intermediate supports or piers. The design leveraged the principles of thrust line analysis, ensuring the arch's geometry could resist bending moments and lateral forces, providing stability even with minimal materials. Da Vinci’s bridge incorporated a keystone at the center to lock the structure in place, optimizing load transfer to the abutments.
