Yesterday’s Freo Startup Fest featured a founders panel, Tech Talks, reverse pitches from investors and a Golden Pitch competition. The day was an opportunity to showcase the successful startups in W.A. and attract investment capital from around Australia. Recent Australian Federal Court rulings emphasise the importance of conducting thorough due diligence trade mark searches before launching a new brand. Failing to check a trade mark's availability may compromise not only a trader’s ability to rely on honest concurrent use provisions in seeking trade mark registration, but good faith provisions as a defence to trade mark infringement.
