Driving Change for Women in STEM
About us
Women 4 STEM is an inclusive organisation with the mission of furthering the entry, retention and progression of urban and regional women in the STEM industries. Women in STEM are a smart lot, working as developers, analysts, programmers and everything in between. However, while some can code in a number of complex languages and have all the smarts in the world, many struggle with how to progress into leadership positions. And, quite frankly, this does not compute. Women 4 STEM is the professional organisation that is putting a rocket up the industry and creating epic pathways for women in STEM leadership. WE ARE THE VOICE OF LEADERSHIP - We are working the diversity agenda from the top down. - We are mentoring, training and connecting our individual members. - We are inspiring women of all ages to enter, stay in and upskill in an amazing industry. - We have pioneered award-winning and record-breaking programs that mean we’re rolling our sleeves up and getting seriously dirty about diversity in STEM. We offer ground-breaking programs for STEM careers from start to finish, visit our website to see them all. GET INVOLVED Now is the time to pull together, get real and create real change. Please share this with your sisters, mother, neighbours and daughters. Everyone is invited, not just those with a two X chromosome. Women played a massive role among the original STEM pioneers, so let’s get behind diversity and create balance, fairness and visible career paths for everyone in STEM. women4stem.com.au

"You can't be what you can't see." This powerful quote is one of our CEO, Mary-Beth Hosking’s favorites — and for good reason! 🌟 She’s often reminded us that representation matters. When we see women leading in STEM, we not only inspire others but pave the way for the next generation to break through barriers and achieve greatness. 💡 At Women4STEM, we are dedicated to showcasing the incredible women who are shaping the future of STEM. By amplifying their stories, we hope to inspire young women to visualize themselves in these roles, knowing that they too can make a difference in the world of STEM. 🌍✨ But we can’t do it alone. Whether you’re a student, a professional, or a company that believes in diversity and inclusion, there are many ways to get involved! Join us as a volunteer, become a sponsor, or even support as a member. Every bit helps in our mission to empower the next wave of female leaders in STEM. Let's work together to create a world where every girl can see herself in the future of technology, engineering, science and math. Last week, the Australian Human Rights Commission launched the National Anti-Racism Framework, the most comprehensive plan ever for eliminating racism in Australia. It provides a roadmap for governments, businesses, and community organisations to address all forms of racism, with 63 recommendations for reforms across legal, justice, health, education, media, arts, workplaces, and data collection sectors. Women 4 STEM brought the WorkWell Respect Network to many STEM workplaces this year. We stand by the belief that this systemic issue needs our urgent collective attention, and we need workplace leaders to walk the talk in preventing workplace gendered violence (including racism) with a zero-tolerance culture. Shockingly in Australian Workplaces, 43% of non-white employees report that racism is common or very common in their workplaces, and less than 25% of workers believe their employers take immediate action against workplace racism. For women with intersecting identities across race and religion, pressures of covert and overt racism are felt from both seniors and juniors in the workplace. These can manifest in various ways, such as microaggressions, undermining of expertise and authority, tone policing, being talked over in meetings, and unequal opportunities for advancement - often with trivialising and demoralising the woman's experience. Change is needed to address this and all forms of Workplace Gendered Violence to create safer workplaces for all. It's not enough to have policies in place; active prevention with transparent and safe reporting and responding measures are essential. One key recommendation for workplaces from AHRC is that "All employers ensure that senior leadership have responsibility for organisational change on intersecting forms of discrimination, including racism." We couldn't agree more.
