The Sustainable Winegrowing Australia trust mark is a symbol that wines can carry to communicate with trade and consumers that the wine they are drinking was made sustainable and holistically from vine to bottle. The trust mark is already in action at in-market events that help to show the world the steps Australian wines are taking to reduce their footprint whilst still creating an excellent product. See the trust mark in action at ‘Taste the Wonders of Australia’ event in Taiwan. Wine Australia for Australian wine
About us
Wine Australia empowers the success of the Australian grape and wine sector across three key functions: • Research, Innovation and Adoption to enhance global competitiveness, helping grape and wine businesses meet the challenges of tomorrow, today. • Market Development to increase the demand and premium paid for Australian wine across all markets by expanding market and promotion opportunities for Australian wine. • Regulatory Services to safeguard product integrity and uphold the sector’s reputation by maintaining market confidence in the high standards expected of Australian wine. Wine Australia is funded by the sector, for the sector, through grapegrower, winemaker and exporter levies and user-pays charges, with matching funds from the Australian Government for research and innovation. Working collaboratively with the sector and Government, we amplify insights, connection and capability building to support profitable, resilient and sustainable grape and wine businesses. Wine Australia is a Commonwealth Government statutory authority established under the Wine Australia Act 2013.

A smoke sensor system that has been trialled in vineyards in north-east Victoria over the last couple of seasons is a step closer to being ready for roll out across the sector following the recent signing of a commercial partner to progress the technology to market. Called Wine Industry Smoke Detectors (WISDs) – colloquially known as ‘wizards’ – the field data loggers provide a real-time assessment of smoke taint risk to give vineyard managers an immediate heads-up about whether smoke in their areas is a threat to their vineyards. The ARC Training Centre in Plant Biosecurity is recruiting PhD students and early career researchers to investigate novel approaches to prevent, respond to and recover from various plant pests and diseases that threaten Australia’s economy and environment. Applications for 10 PhD projects are currently open with additional projects to be released in early 2025. The aims of one of the current projects is to address key knowledge gaps in our understanding of scale and mealybug biology and ecology in viticulture. Improving the design and implementation of spore traps, social licence during biosecurity outbreaks, the epidemiology of Botryosphaeriaceae associated with mango dieback, and fall armyworm population genomics and biocontrol options are among the other current projects on offer. Click here for further details: https://lnkd.in/enPQSn7F Applications close 22 January 2025. What do 1.3M transactions tell us about Direct to Consumer sales trends? The Direct to Consumer Report 2024 shows that while growth in wine sales in the Direct to Consumer (DTC) channel in Australia is slowing in line with a maturing business cycle, a softening economy and increasing competition and fragmentation, the DTC sales remain more resilient than wholesale where depletions and average spend have seen downward pressure this year. Click below to read this market bulletin, which examines the key insights from the report that was funded by Wine Australia and produced in collaboration with Wine Direct, Enolytics and Georgia Rasmussen Consulting. https://lnkd.in/g2XFekEH
