Western Training emerged from the Women in Civil training program, originally developed in 2020 by Connect Resources and founded by Daniel Norton in response to the financial impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, which disproportionately affected women. This pioneering program successfully trained six cohorts—67 women in total—who earned their certifications for Water Cart, Loader, Digger, Roller, Posi Track, Dozer, Dump Truck, and Heavy Rigid (HR) licenses. Each trainee gained over 200 hours of hands-on experience on a civil construction site, achieving a Certificate III in Civil Construction. Importantly, trainees were fully paid, with 85% retained as full-time employees 12 months post-program (as of November 2021).
In 2021, Western Training was established to expand training opportunities across Western Australia. From the initial cohorts, seven graduates progressed to earn their Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, becoming educational leaders and mentors at Western Training RTO.
Our story is just beginning, and we’re dedicated to continuing our mission of providing transformative education and career pathways to the Western Australian community.
