🎄 🔔 On day 6 of catchment Christmas we're celebrating all the exciting new projects to come out of the sixth funding round of the Environmental Contribution Levy (EC6). 🎁 After wrapping-up our EC5 projects this year, we're looking forward to busy but exciting times as we deliver more environmental initiatives to improve catchment health. Estuaries need both of these water sources to provide a diverse and healthy environment. 🔔 🦅 We have 4 estuaries in West Gippsland that open and close from time to time - this is part of a natural process and supports their ongoing health: 1. 🎄 🐟 Delivering water just for the environment keeps rivers and wetlands flowing and healthy and creates the right conditions for fish and wildlife like platypus to move, shelter and breed. We deliver water for the environment to 3 rivers in the catchment: 1. Carran Carran (Thomson River) 2. Wirn Wirndook Yeerung (Macalister River) 3. Durt'Yowan (Latrobe River) and wetlands. 🎁 🦆 ‘Water for the environment’ is water that is set aside in major reservoirs and carefully released down the river to support the health of West Gippsland’s waterways. 🎄 🦆 On the second day of Catchment Christmas, we celebrate the two Ramsar wetlands in West Gippsland.- Corner Inlet and Gippsland Lakes. ❓🌏 What is Ramsar? A worldwide network of protected wetlands named after a convention held in Ramsar, Iran. They are recognised as being of value for Australia - and the world. 🐣 🎁 We are privileged to manage Corner Inlet and East Gippsland CMA manages Gippsland Lakes Ramsar site - places that critically endangered species like the Eastern Curlew (pictured) rely on for survival. 🎄🎄 The countdown to Catchment Christmas has begun! On the first day, we present to you - us!! One team working with partners from the mountains to the sea to care for one catchment of West Gippsland. 🎁 🎁 We are honoured to be responsible for over 40,000km of designated waterways across that region that all flow to the Victorian coast, through the Gippsland Lakes, or directly into Bass Strait and the Southern Ocean. 🎄🎄 What do we do? Our small, local team works with Traditional Owners, partners and community protecting waterways and wildlife, delivering water for the environment and sustainable agriculture programs, providing flood advice, managing estuaries and supporting Landcare.

🐟 This water Wednesday, we are celebrating all the knowledge, experience and passion that goes into caring for Talikatoor (Gippsland Lakes). 💙 We are proud to be part of the the Love Our Lakes program that is delivering 48 projects across the Lakes. 🐸 Project and community partners recently gathered at Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation's stunning new Wangun Amphitheatre to share updates on the projects they have been delivering over the last three years across the Lakes. 🌱 Combining science, monitoring, on-ground works, and partnering with community, these projects collectively have had a positive impact across the internationally renowned Gippsland Lakes Ramsar site – safeguarding it for the future. 🌱 Well done to Corner Inlet Landcare who worked with Foster Secondary College, Welshpool Primary School and Worley Power Services to put in over 300 native plants along the historic Agnes River Rd recently. 👏 This is part of an ongoing restoration of stunning Agnes River Gorge. 🌱 After the planting, Landcare was presented with $6,000, through the Worley Foundation Incentive Program, to support continued restoration and enhancement efforts. 👣 These dedicated Landcarers have a vision to reopen the disused Agnes River Rd as a walking track to connect Sth Gippsland Hwy to Agnes Falls. #cornerinletlandcare #southgippslandlandcarenetwork #worleyfoundation #cmasgetitdone #agnesriver #cornerinlet #landcare Worley #gunaikurnaicountry #fostersecondarycollege #welshpoolprimaryschool
