An initiative codesigned between The University of Queensland, industry and government has provided a unique opportunity for the infrastructure industry to collaboratively innovate with supply chain partners to support the transition to circular economy and #netzero. The Infrastructure CoLab is a multi-party innovation model that brings together multiple companies along the supply chain to create tangible solutions to industry challenges, with support from the Queensland Government. The project builds on learnings from key partner Business Models Inc., which runs multi-party innovation labs in Australia and internationally. Dr Cristyn Meath is cofounder of The Infrastructure CoLab, as well as Hub Director, Sustainable Infrastructure Research Hub at The University of Queensland and Senior Lecturer at UQ Business School. Dr Meath was recognised with an Early-to-Mid-Career Researcher Industry Engagement Award at the UQ Research Partnerships and Translation Awards for her work with The Infrastructure CoLab. Some of Queensland’s top disaster researchers joined the state’s disaster management community last week at the Queensland Disaster Research Alliance (QDRA) stakeholders’ end-of-year event to exchange knowledge, engage in collaborative discussions and learn more about current priorities, challenges and opportunities in disaster management. The QDRA brings together seven Queensland universities to grow and integrate Queensland’s capability and capacity to deliver high impact and at-scale disaster management research. The University of Queensland is proud to be a member of QDRA, alongside CENTRAL QUEENSLAND UNIVERSITY, Griffith University, James Cook University, QUT (Queensland University of Technology), University of the Sunshine Coast, and University of Southern Queensland. With thanks to the fantastic presenters and to everyone who made the event a success. We look forward to continuing collaboration in 2025 to advance disaster resilience and research in Queensland. If you’re keen to present at the 8th annual #Microneedles2025 conference, and you haven’t already submitted your extract, you’ll need to get your skates on, as submissions are due 7 January. ☄️ Vaxxas and The University of Queensland have teamed up as presenting partners to bring the conference to the southern hemisphere for the first time, making it an excellent opportunity to showcase the #HealthcareInnovation sector in Queensland. 👏 👏 👏 So mark your diaries for 11 to 14 May, when the conference will be held at Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre. 🗓️ If you’re interested in presenting your original work you can submit an abstract for inclusion as either an oral presentation or poster display. The best posters will be considered for a flash presentation. Submissions from students and early career researchers (especially researchers based in low- and middle-income countries) are particularly encouraged: Microneedles 2025 will review abstracts based on merit-based, gender equity and diversity principles. 👍 [Note that early-career researchers are individuals who are within their first 10 years of academic or research-related employment following the completion of their PhD.] Submissions may cover, but are not restricted to: 💡 #mRNA vaccines 💡 Preclinical – vaccine delivery 💡 Clinical research 💡 Drug delivery 💡 Global health 💡 Costing/economic evaluation 💡 Regulatory development 💡 Innovative application of #microneedles 💡 Microneedle fabrication 💡 Device Manufacture 💡 Diagnostics, sensors and monitoring 💡 Microneedle useability 💡 Human factors and acceptability 💡 #Immunology 💡 Coatings and formulation 💡 Fabrication and materials 💡 Skin biomechanics Submit your extract at 👉https://lnkd.in/gX5s9KTB 🫰 Now is also a great time to take advantage of early-bird pricing for registrations – https://lnkd.in/gaFjy6Wm

Achieving a just and sustainable #energytransition will take a concerted effort from developed countries. Last week, delegates from The University of Queensland joined the 13th International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development in Bangkok, Thailand, hosted by the United Nations ESCAP, to explore ways to drive forward coordinated action on clean energy and climate goals. The session ended with The UN Regional Commissions issuing a statement calling for accelerated global action to achieve an equitable and sustainable energy future, outlined in the post below. The University of Queensland was proud to be involved in this international conference, with several researchers presenting on the theme, “Taking Action for Just Energy Transition”. UQ PhD candidate Olivia Coldrey’s session on “Bridging the gap in clean cooking access” focused on the need for universal access to clean fuels and technology for cooking, and the role that finance plays in the adoption of solutions worldwide. Other UQ experts presented research focused on topics ranging from decarbonising heavy vehicles to policy options, post-coal social transitions, misinformation, and the #NetZero Australia project. Well done to all those involved.
