Women's rights are under attack worldwide. In Afghanistan, the Taliban has erased nearly every freedom for women. In Iraq, a proposed law could lower the marriage age to just 9. In the US, abortion bans are rolling back decades of progress. These alarming trends show how fragile progress is — but women everywhere are resisting. #16Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence comes to an end today, but our work is far from over. Nearly 30 years ago, global leaders and activists adopted the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, setting a revolutionary agenda for gender equality. This Declaration called for: 🔸ending systemic barriers 🔸eradicating poverty 🔸expanding healthcare 🔸promoting women in decision-making Progress has been made, but there is more to be done. We must act now to ensure ALL women and girls, everywhere, can realise their rights. ✊ Because women's rights are human rights. Our cities are glowing orange tonight! Over 70 landmarks across Australia are lighting up orange in solidarity to raise awareness about domestic and family violence, marking the final day of the #16DaysOfActivism against Gender-based Violence. If you’re in the city tonight, take a moment to visit these illuminated landmarks and join the call for change. From the iconic International Towers at Barangaroo to the bustling Canberra Centre, landmarks across major cities and regional areas—including 120 Collins Street in Melbourne, Queensland Plaza in Brisbane, and Mandurah Forum in Western Australia—are all shining a light on the need for change. A very big thank you to the Champions of Change Coalition and the Property Council of Australia for championing this cause. Together, we’re working toward a world where women and girls are #SafeEverywhereAlways. #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #EndGBV #16Days #WorkplaceSafety #ChampionsOfChangeCoalition #HumanRightsDay #GenderEquality

As office parties and holiday gatherings fill our calendars, let’s remember: a safe workplace is everyone’s responsibility. Respectful behaviour isn’t optional – it’s essential. Did you know? 1 in 3 people in Australia have experienced sexual harassment at work, with incidents often spiking during social events like end-of-year parties. Everyone deserves to feel #SafeEverywhereAlways. Let’s take a stand this festive season: call out inappropriate behaviour, support safe spaces, and remember that respect is the best gift you can give.

While many Australians recognise physical violence as domestic violence, non-physical abuse often goes unnoticed. According to ANROWS, 82% of Australians see slapping or pushing as “always” domestic violence, but only 66% say the same about repeated criticism to belittle a partner. Understanding the full spectrum of violence against women is crucial to ending it. Learn about the key forms of violence against women and girls, along with other essential terms every gender equality activist should know: https://lnkd.in/g8MNWYCg #SafeEverywhereAlways #EVAW #EndViolenceAgainstWomen
