About us
True Relationships & Reproductive Health (True) is a leading provider of reproductive and sexual health services in Queensland. Formerly known as 'Family Planning Queensland', True, a profit-for-purpose organisation, was founded in 1972 on the premise of helping young women to understand how to take charge of their reproductive and sexual health, supporting them with information and choice. Since then, our operations has grown to become more inclusive, with True now aiming to improve health literacy and outcomes for all people in Queensland through providing clinical services, clinical education, community education, and sexual assault counselling services.

As we reflect on, and celebrate, the essential contributions of millions of migrants worldwide today, we also want to take a moment to celebrate the 'Health In My Language' program by True Relationships & Reproductive Health. This program, run in partnership with the Multicultural Centre for Women's Health, makes multilingual health education sessions available to migrant and refugee communities in 11 languages across our diverse state. “Over 98% of participants reported increased health-seeking behaviours, raising demand for healthcare services, reducing harm, improving adherence to advice, and resulting in better outcomes”, says Moji Khakbaz, our Health In My Language program coordinator. “We are proud to deliver culturally safe - and effective - health education to migrants and refugees across Queensland, supporting health for all.” 🌍

We had the pleasure of hosting Federal Minister for Health and Aged Care, Mark Butler, today. He stopped by our Cairns clinic to discuss the support we provide for people living with endometriosis and pelvic pain and our other clinical services. A huge shoutout to our Cairns clinic team for their incredible work and advocacy in this space! 🙌

As we celebrate the International Day of People with Disability, we're proud to shine a spotlight on our Looking After Me Program (LAMP), which provides bespoke 1 on 1 education for people with disability (of all ages) on sexuality, relationships, and reproductive health. These age-appropriate sessions are paced, prepared, and delivered in an accessible way for those who have not received adequate or accessible sexuality education. They are also suited to those embarking on a new stage of life who are seeking relevant information. Our LAMPs offer life-changing outcomes for our valued clients, strengthening safety, underpinning respectful relationships, improving quality of life and supporting access to choice and pleasure. Queensland's incredible diversity is one of our biggest strengths. Around 15.6% of Queensland households speak English as a second language. Bicultural health and community care workers are an invaluable part of our health system. Bilingual health system navigators, public health officers, community workers and educators play a key role in reducing barriers to health and community care, and in improving health literacy. Unfortunately, this vital workforce is undervalued. It is characterised by job insecurity and under-employment, as well as a lack of employer recognition of these bilingual roles. Over the last year, True Relationships & Reproductive Health partnered with the Ethnic Communities Council of Queensland (ECCQ) on a project that aimed to support the development of a thriving, connected and respected bicultural workforce for Queensland. We engaged with employers, policymakers, bicultural workers and others to deeply understand the challenges and opportunities facing this workforce. We invite you to read and share the final report, supporting our ongoing advocacy for our valued bicultural workers: https://lnkd.in/gWhRmJ5R Our sincere thanks to Jobs Queensland for their support and funding of this project through the Queensland Care Consortium (QCC) initiative.
