Supporting parents to be the best resource for their children.

About us

The Parent Project is a social enterprise that supports parents in recovering their confidence to be the best resource for their children’s mental health and wellbeing. It provides learning resources for parents and professional resources for those who assist parents in their complex roles. The Parent Confidence Project manualised programs and seminars are part of this enterprise. We reinvest any surplus funds generated through training and products to create more accessible support resources for parents and helpers.

  • Fiona Taylor, shares her reflections on the ideas and research behind the Parent Hope Project. More specifically, Fiona speaks in this clip to her experience as a Clincian doing the Parent Hope Program with Parents. Fiona mentions Parents beginning to "pay attention to the process and not just the outcome", during Parent Hope Program Sessions. Fiona has over 15 years experience as a Clinical Psychologist working with adults, children, adolescents, young people and parents. She has worked in numerous settings, including research, hospital, community mental health and private practice. The majority of her experience has been working with adolescents, young people and their families who present with anxiety, mood disorders, grief, psychosis, trauma, chronic pain, and emotion dysregulation. Fiona is interested in assisting adults and young people to improve all aspects of their mental health, wellbeing and relationships. Fiona’s approach is informed by Family Systems Theory and mindfulness-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapies, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Fiona has a special interest in working with the unique challenges related to either being a twin or multiple or parenting multiples (being a parent of multiples herself). Fiona has found that more sustainable changes for symptomatic children occur when parents are included in the treatment. Therefore, Fiona will always see adolescents with one or both parents, or work exclusively with parents. Fiona has experience working with clients from a variety of cultural and religious backgrounds. *Fiona Taylor was recorded on the ideas and research behind the Parent Hope Project, from the 2023 Book Launch. *The Parent Hope Program is the manualised program that Clinicians can train to use with Parents or Parents can do the Program with a trained clinician. • A clip from this months Podcast episode. Cultivating Connection & Independence”: The Journey of Differentiation-Based Parenting Part 1 Jenny presents a title for the approach of the Parent Hope Project. "By recognising their own emotional triggers and responses, parents can avoid being overly influenced by their children’s moods and behaviours, fostering clearer communication and problem-solving. This parenting stance promotes a healthier family dynamic, enabling children to grow as unique individuals who can learn to manage their emotions and challenges, ultimately leading to more resilient and independent young people." #newepisode #selfawareness #parenting #children #Resilience

  • Dr Holly McGovern a Principle Clinical Psychologist, Home Clinical Psychology, shares her reflections on the ideas and research behind the Parent Hope Project. Dr Holly McGovern (BSc; MSc; D(Clin)Psych; MAPS), has worked in child and adolescent psychology for more than 20 years and recognises the need for a practice that provides specialist family therapy and parent focused systems therapy. Drawing from a wealth of experience in both the public and private sectors, Holly approaches all her clients with an understanding that a young person exists within a complex ecosystem of biological, environmental and contextual factors that have the capacity to inhibit or support their potential to thrive. She believes effective and sustainable change is achieved by strengthening the child’s natural support systems by providing targeted individual (CBT; DBT; ACT), family (Bowen Family Therapy; Circle of Security) and group treatments that incorporate the young person’s family, school and /or clinical team as needed. *Dr Holly McGovern recorded sharing her reflections on the ideas and research behind the Parent Hope Project, from the 2023 Book Launch. *The Parent Hope Program is the manualised tool that Dr McGovern refers to. *Book mentioned | "Facilitating Parents Agency in Child and Adolescent Mental Health" by Dr Jenny Brown. #reflections #childrensmentalhealth #manualisedtool #familyandparentwork #strugglingyoungpeople.
